John knew that walking would take at least twenty-five thousand years. So instead John used his totally not stolen credit card and ordered a taxi.
"Where to?" The taxi driver asked John
"Take me to 1032 Industrial Lane." John said
The taxi driver gave John a stoic nod.
"Alright," John said
And then they were on their way.
The Neptune and Naos had grown so large that they didn't couldn't in a car. So John just had them fly along above them.
He sat in the car for about thirty minutes until he reached his destination.
.
…
...
...…
John looked up at where the sculpture's place of business was supposed to be. It was just an apartment building. An ordinary apartment.
How this was supposed to be a place of business baffled John. It looked like the type of apartment that you would live in.
John glanced down at his phone. This was the place.....
"Well… This is my stop. Just drop me off here." John told the taxi driver
The driver nodded.
"All right."
John opened the door of the car and got out. As soon as he left the car the taxi drove away.
John's dragons silently landed next to John.
John slowly walked up to the apartment building with his dragons.
The apartment building was quite a tall building. It had to be at least three storeys tall. There was a metal gate that blocked the entrance to the apartment building. On a post next to the metal gate was an electronic communication device.
John walked up to the device. Next to the sheet of metal filled with many holes was a button.
John pressed it.
ZZZZZZZZZT
"Yes? Who is this?" Said the voice coming from the post.
"Ummmm. This....." John paused for a solid twenty seconds.
"This is John Turner. I need a statue made."
ZZZZZZZZZT
There was a silence in which there was only static.
"Then why are you coming to an apartment building?" Asked the voice coming from the post.
"...….." John froze.
ZZZZZZZZZZZZZT
For a moment, the static dominated the scene.
"Um..... Um...….. I looked up….. Statue maker on Google Maps. And this was the place that came up." John said
"Okay... I'll ask around and see if any of the tenants make statues." Said the voice from the post.
John smiled.
"Thank you."
TZZZZZT
The static cut out.
John sat himself down right next to the post. ______ was in his hands. John, two dragons, snuggled up against him.
It would take too much time and energy to find another person. So John would wait.
After only a few minutes of waiting it began to rain. John sat there in the rain. Water fell off his bald scalp and gave it a mighty gleam.
ZZZZZZZZZZZT
After about half an hour of waiting the static returned.
"Okay. There is someone in this apartment complex who makes statues. They'll be out to meet you shortly." Said the box
"Thank you," John said
John sat and waited for another ten minutes. Until finally the gate of the apartment building swung open.
Standing at the entryway was a woman who wore a full-on actual suit. She had a broad smile on her face and slightly grey eyes. Her hair was brown and cut into a pixie cut. She had a slight build and a dimple on her right cheek.
"Are….. Those dragons?" The woman asked
Her face took on a slightly more pale shade.
"Yes." John said
"Can you keep them away from me, please? I'm afraid of dragons."
John nodded.
"Okay. But there's no reason to be afraid. Their like giant very powerful dogs." John said
"Would you say it would be wrong for a person to be afraid of dogs if their friends were mauled to death by one?" The woman asked
John was silent. His lips bent into a frown.
John, you fucking asshole.~
"Sorry," John said
"It's no problem. So. You said you were looking for a statue maker?" The woman asked
Her smile was gone now.
"Ye...…. Yes. I need a monument. For...….."
John paused for what felt like an eternity.
He pointed down at _______'s body.
"This."
The woman looked down at the dragon in John's lap.
"You want me to sculpt a dragon?" She asked
"Yes."
"You want ME to sculpt a dragon?!?!?!"
"Yes?"
She took a deep breath.
"Can you give me some time to think about this?" She asked
John nodded.
"Sure." He said
John spent the next five days just sitting there and waiting.
For some reason, he couldn't muster up the will to get up and look for another sculptor. The woman (who John still hadn't gotten the name of.) She would stare at John with a look of horror and confusion every day when she pulled into her apartment.
John would just give her a weak smile as she drove away.
The other people in the apartment complex had complained. And they had tried to send security to kick John out. But a few pecks and one blast of fire from Neptune kept them at bay.
They had tried to call the police on John. But because of the flood of recent migrants to the city, the police were too busy to displace a random squatter.
John's dragons would bring him a deer to eat each day. Which he would swallow whole. They would then share their own deer next to John.
John would make sure to swallow any bones that were left over by the dragons. He didn't want to make a mess.
And like that, five days passed. Five days with ______ In his lap and five days when the sculpture wasn't being built.
And then the gate swung open.
The woman stood there in her suit. She usually wasn't wearing a suit. Or at least from what John had seen of her driving into the apartment. She didn't often wear suits. But now she was wearing one.
She looked at John there was a look in her eyes that John couldn't quite place. There was joy and there was also grief. It was like she was seeing an old friend who had become an enemy pass away.
"I'll do it. I'll make you the sculpture." She said
John smiled.
"Thank you."
