Chapter 36 - Sign!

John nodded.

"Yes, their from the Troll's world. I picked these guys up after a certain event I went through." Said John as he rubbed his hand around the head of one of the dragons on his shoulder.

There was a look of melancholy in John's eyes as he said this.

"Well. They look cute." Said Aria.

John smiled.

"They are cute."

"You want to go for a walk with me?" Asked Aria

How forward! This is practically the equivalent of her asking me to marry her!

John didn't talk to women often.

"Ummmm. Sure." Said John.

Aria smiled.

John couldn't help but think to himself.

That's a pretty smile.

With some huffing and puffing, but John managed to blubber at the same speed as Aria. Although Aria wasn't exactly blubbering.

After a few minutes of walking in silence, Aria spoke.

"So. What takes you around these parts?" Asked Aria

John smiled.

"I was here to finish my last test to become a warrior. I had to defend a town being besieged by trolls. But I encountered some pretty big opponents, so I'm making a strategic retreat." Said John.

Moments after John said that his face paled slightly.

Nice going John. Now she'll think you're a weak ass coward. Women don't like that.

Aria's Jaw dropped in bafflement.

A cold sweat broke out on John's brow.

She's clearly surprised by my weakness.

"Is the town just down the road the one you were supposed to defend?" Aria asked

John nodded.

"Yes, that town, exactly."

"Well, good thing you got out of there then. I was just landing to get ready to refuel before bombing the place." Said Aria.

Wait. Can't I just say I defended the town when Aria did all the work?

"Dude. Would you mind if I took your credit? I could claim that I was the one who defended the town when it was you who did all the work." Said John

Aria smiled.

"No, I don't mind at all. Although calling it defending would be a stretch. "

John pumped his fist into the air in enthusiasm.

"SWEET!" He yelled.

John did seem to acknowledge what else Aria said.

Aria's nose wrinkled as John raised his arm into the air.

"Ummmm. I should probably get going now." She said.

"Okay."

Aria shuffled away.

Why did she leave so suddenly.

It was right after John raised his arm into the air that Aria tried to leave.

John brought his nose next to his arm.

SHIT! I'M SMELLY!

There's no deodorant in the apocalypse. It was a given that John would stink.

I can't believe I didn't smell anyone before. Am I nose-blind or something? Well... I've never been able to discern between rotten and good food. I can't even tell the difference with milk. Even if I drink it. So that would make sense.

SHWOOOOOOOOOOOO

John looked at the fighter jet flying above him. Aria was off and away.

...…..

Death. We all die. And right now Dude was dead.

He sat in a wooden chair with small spikes carved into the seat. On the table before him was a book and around him were empty bookshelves made from a white birch.

"You know. Most people get the opportunity to put their book down before their story ends. Those few moments are what some need to come back from the brink. But you… You don't deserve that."

Dude's head moved in the direction of the voice.

Standing across from. Dude was a skeletal figure. Not in the sense that they were skinny. They were a skeleton. They had an angry voice that toed the line between a man and a woman. Their eyes were filled with blue flame, and they were clothed in nothing save for a small baseball cap.

Dude glared at the skeleton.

He motioned to get out of his chair. Only to find that his body wouldn't move.

"You aren't allowed to leave your chair. You don't have the right." Said the skeleton

Dudes glare grew to another level.

"Why?"

"Because. Someone like you doesn't deserve it!" Snapped the Skeleton.

"WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU THINK I DID!"

Spit flew from Dude's mouth in a hail as he screamed.

"You've been the fucking villain! You are the fucking villain!"

"NO! I'M NOT! I JUST DO WHAT I NEED TO!" Screamed Dude

The Skeleton rubbed their hand along their brow.

"Just sign."

The Skeleton waved their hand. The book swung open. The pages flew by until it arrived at the last thin page.

The end…..

Sign here to confirm:________

Dude looked up at the skeleton. For some strange reason, there was a pen in his hand.

"Why would I even sign this?" Asked Dude.

"You'll have to sit there. Time doesn't pass here. No matter what, you'll be in the same moment as when you died. I'm prepared to wait for an eternity for you to sign again."

The skeleton crossed his arms.

Dude could only look at the Skeletion with confusion.

"What do you mean Again?" Asked Dude

For a moment, the Skeleton paused. They were silent to the question.

Before they finally formulated a response.

"I didn't say that."

Dude furrowed his brows at the Skeleton. His face couldn't express any concept apart from suspicion.

"I'm pretty sure you did. What does that mean?"

"I DIDN'T SAY THAT!"
