Chapter 18 - Her mind was blank.

She shot him an exasperated look. "Richard, I am sorry if I offended you. Can't you stop...."

Her words were cut off when he smashed his lips against hers.

Her mind went blank. This man was so capricious. One second he was glaring at her, and the next, he started kissing her.

She regained her senses and used her all strength to shove Richard away.

He then pulled and imprisoned her in his arms and pinned her with a steely gaze.

"Let me go, Richard"

She struggled hard against him. His current behaviour made her slightly worried. She wasn't certain what this man was planning to do to her.

"Miranda, Only I can say no in this marriage. If you dare to pack your suitcase again, I will make your life turn into ashes. Do you understand that?" He asked in horror.

The fury in his eyes was so intense it was as though he wanted to turn her into cinders.

Miranda subconsciously nodded her head. After getting her answer, the rage in Richard's eyes faded slightly, but she could still feel his chilly aura surrounding her.

He then lowered his head and locked lips with me again. His kiss was gentle and lingering as if he was kissing a woman he loved. His sudden gentleness took her completely off guard, sending her heart racing a thousand miles per hour.

She continued to let him kiss her and forgot to push him away as her mind went utterly blank. After a couple of minutes, Richard finally let her go and smiled at her affectionately. On the other hand, she was stupefied.

"I am hungry. Make it quick." He said before he walked out.

Miranda was left alone, rooted to the ground. She felt like lashing out, but her heart was brimmed with annoyance and scared.

When Richard came down, he changed into a navy blue casual tee. The dishes were already placed on the table but she did not sit at the dining table. Instead, she sat on the couch.

Richard glanced at her, raised a smirk and sat down to dig in the food. If there was something to note, he ate more than the amount of food he usually had. And it was all thanks to Miranda's cooking.

The next day Miranda invited Nancy for lunch. Nancy was still eating, whereas Miranda was drinking some water. She nearly finished eating all the seafood on their table.

"What makes you so distressed?" Nancy asked.

"Nothing..." Miranda sighed. Nancy continued drinking water as Miranda waited for her to finish the lobsters.

As she ate, Miranda noticed that she stopped moving, and her eyes were staring fixedly at some distant object.

She followed the direction of her gaze and found that she was looking at the young couple. Not far away, a young couple walked toward us while hugging each other tightly. Even while they were walking, the man kept teasing the girl beside him.

"Miranda, Let's go if you're done." Nancy's voice was choked with emotions, but she kept them under control.

"What a coincidence. I did not expect to see you both here." Launce stood in front of Nancy, gazing at her face.

Miranda looked at their faces, she was filled with rage.

"I don't think it's that coincidental, to be honest. I've been bumping into a lot of scoundrels and sluts wherever I go lately."

"Launce, who's this? How rude of her!"

"My ex's best friend. Anyway, she's just a shrew; ignore her." Launce cast Miranda a disdainful glance.

The woman laughed out acting like she heard the most funniest word.

"Who are you calling my best friend 'shrew'?" Nancy, who had been quiet all along, jumped up suddenly when she saw the woman laughing. Before Miranda even realized it, Nancy had shoved the woman onto the ground.

"Nancy, what do you think you're doing?" Launce yelled.

Just then, the woman who was pushed by Nancy stood up. Boiling with rage, her face was distorted by anger.

"You b*tch! How dare you push me!"

With that, the woman dashed toward Nancy and grabbed the latter's throat tightly like a mad woman.

Witnessing a scene such as this, Miranda flew into a panic. She was afraid that Nancy would be on the losing end. Hence, Miranda rushed toward her and tried to pull that woman away.

However, that woman had gone berserk. She turned around and landed a slap on her face, to which she nearly fainted. After regaining her senses, a fresh swell of rage rose in her like a tide.

"Do you have a death wise?" Miranda pulled that woman's hair until she released her grip on Nancy's throat. Then, she took the opportunity to push her to the floor again.
