Emmaline gulped.
But there was nothing for it. She had to own up to her actions.
"Hey Layla," Emmaline responded, using her real voice.
She stepped closer, trying not to be afraid.
Layla had been friendly and kind to her over a weekend when everyone seemed out for her blood.
Knowing that her deceit might have cost her Layla's genuine friendship pained Emmaline.
Layla cocked her head, assessing, before tossing her a helmet.
Fumbling, Emmaline barely just avoided dropping it but stared at it and then Layla.
"Come on," Layla revved the engine as if driving off with a contract boyfriend's best friend is the perfectly normal thing to do after revealing your real gender.
Emmaline only hesitated for a second before jamming the helmet on and climbing onto the vespa.
"Whoo!" Layla hooted as they sped off.
