A/N: This bonus chapter follows the guy after the event in Chapter 2.
From the guy's POV
I wrapped a blanket over the girl. "What's happening?" She asks. I reassured her by placing my hand on her shoulder. "You should be fine. Just go with the police." The girl got hyped up, screaming questions at me while I left. It's not my job to explain to her what's happening. You have more important things to do. Just-- just keep walking...
I approached my father and one glance at me made him sigh in disappointment. "They escaped. Again." He saunters in front of me. "I really can't rely on you, can I? You have one job to do! One! And you somehow fucked it up."
"I tried to protect a civilian." I curl a fist by my side. He's my father. I shouldn't. In my mother's memory, I'll try to control myself as much as I can.
"Who? That girl? Oh, come on!" He raises his voice. "She's already done for. What's more important is getting that syndicate down!" There's a pained expression on his face. The same expression I saw when my mother died. I softly replied, not adding fuel to the fire. "I'm sorry. For what it's worth, I got evidence." I gently placed the broken camera on his hand.
My father took a shaky breath as he calmed himself down. "Just go. We'll talk later." He irritatingly gestures for me to leave. (Fine by me.) I stood straight giving him a salute. "Yes, Deputy Chief Samson!"
As I was walking down the street to the parking lot, I felt a presence behind me. I casually walked, waiting for him to approach me closely. He tried to pull a chokehold tactic on me but with one elbow to his side made him wriggle in pain. "Nice try." I smiled at my friend as he coughed. "Fuck... I really can't sneak up on you, huh?" I laughed, crossing my arms. "What do you expect? You're a noisy bastard after all."
He grins. "So!" He puts an arm around my shoulder. "I heard you fucked that pretty girl there. Little Jamie's growing up fast!" He raises his brows, teasing me.
I removed his hand, shaking my head. "It's not my idea. I'm just doing my job." He ran in front of me. "She's a catch though! If all goes well, you'll be her knight in shining armor!"
I walked past him. "You can stop Tom. You should be helping to fix that camera." Thomas sighs. "So she's just a bait? NAH!" He looks at me, surprised. I just looked back at him, dead serious. "I just wanted to cheer you up! I heard your father screaming at you again."
I gently punched his chest. "Thanks, bro. But that's not what I'm upset about." My friend lowered his voice. "Yeah... It's quite scary, really. That girl's being followed and she won't even listen to us. You know, I fear for her and the other girls. This may be the biggest online syndicate we've ever faced."
"Yes," I replied. "And I let the culprit escape." I should feel bad about this but for some reason, I'm not. I wallow at the thought. That rich-looking cutie. It's not a serious wound but he still made me care. Making sure that he's safe made it all worth it.
A figure in the distance snapped me back to reality. It's him! "Quick give me your keys!" I quickly looked at Thomas. "No! I don't care if you're sad! Don't take my new car!" I gave a quick search in his pockets as he struggled. "No, bro! I don't want to drive your poor-ass car!"
"Give it!" I pouted. "You're the worst." He gave me the key with a defeated face. "Thank you!" I teasingly rubbed his head, sprinting towards his car. "I'll make it up to you!" I slowly drove ahead. Ok. Be cool. Be cool. You just need to ensure his safety from the culprit. You got this! I amped up the music, giving me more confidence as my head danced to the rhythm. I slowed down in front of him. He looks so cute when he's freezing. I'd like to snuggle with him and warm him up!
