The Cheyenne Mountain Complex, located in Colorado, is a deep underground military installation primarily designed for the United States' aerospace defense operations. It is situated beneath 2,000 feet of granite, providing substantial protection against potential nuclear strikes and other threats.
Engineered for resilience, the facility is capable of withstanding a 30-megaton nuclear explosion from a distance of about 1.2 miles. The complex's structural integrity is further enhanced by being built on springs, which allows it to absorb and mitigate the effects of seismic activity and blast shockwaves.
Spanning approximately 4.5 acres, the Cheyenne Mountain Complex contains 15 interconnected buildings. Each building consists of three stories and is constructed within a network of excavated caverns and tunnels. This extensive space is utilized for various military and communication functions.
