The smell of antiseptics and disinfectants, along with an unfamiliar scent, filtered through my subconscious as I struggled to wake up from what felt like an endless abyss. Eventually, I decided to stop fighting and follow those smells, allowing them to guide me.
When I finally opened my eyes, I found myself staring at the white ceiling of a cozy hospital room, accompanied by the rhythmic beeping of machines. Memories of everything that had happened rushed back. Glancing to the side, I saw Rex sleeping peacefully beside me, his head resting on the bed. Despite his battered appearance from our ordeal, seeing him like this filled me with a sense of relief.
I tried to adjust myself to get more comfortable, but pain shot through my head and leg with every movement, causing me to wince and freeze. Unfortunately, I had already disturbed Rex's peaceful sleep
