Chapter 5 - CONSEQUENCES OF MY ACTION I

I woke up with a splitting headache and awful eye bags. I didn't sleep well yesterday and to top it all, I had a nightmare. Guess who was in it, Mr rude of course. Today is sure going to be another series of new episode in school. Before leaving the house, I had already prepared my mind for the worse.

At school, Lily and I surprisingly arrived at the same time. Lily's appearance was a sharp contrast to mine. She wore this cute braids accessorized by tiny butterfly hair clips. She was glowing from head to toe. I would have sworn that her cute smile gave me a fussy feeling. Wait, what am I thinking?

"Oh my goodness! Why do you look that way? Didn't you sleep well last night?" Lily asked once she had crossed the distance between us.

I groaned. "Is it that bad?"

"Hmm!" She nodded. "But don't worry. No one will notice if they don't get too close."

I nodded. Wait, what? My eyes twitched. Was that suppose to help?

Lily brought up what happened yesterday as we walked down to class. "I still can't believe you did that yesterday."

"Me too. But I just couldn't hold it in anymore," I responded and thereafter, tried explaining the reason why I had acted rashly.

"Maybe...you should have tried. Now, you worsened the situation. Only God knows what Rex is going to do next. Let's hope you don't get suspended or worse get expelled."

I could tell she was worried. "Don't worry, Lily. I'm more than ready for today. I brought along a pair of scissor just in case I have anything to cut loose," I said with full confidence only to see Lily eyeing me strangely. What was that look for?

We got to the classroom to see everyone whispering and at the same time pointing at me. I was confused. What was going on?

"Uh-oh!" I heard really exclaim. "Sydney, look over here."

I turned to see her pointing towards the white board. It was totally covered with abusive words directed towards me. Words like dumb fool, clueless, blind as a bat, stupid, and so many worse ones I can't mention.

"To think you had the gots to humiliate Rex yesterday, I can't wait to see how he deals with you," someone said.

I turned to see a girl combing her fingers through her hair. I glared at her.

"You are new but you already started making trouble," she continued not minding the look I was giving her.

Who is she and why is she sounding like as if I poured the water on her instead. Aside from Lily, Mr rude and his minions, I don't know the name of any other classmates. From the way she was acting, she must be among Mr rude's worshippers.

I snorted. "Making trouble? How am I the one who made trouble. Where were you when he was bullying me, huh? Why didn't you speak up then? No, you couldn't because you where somewhere being a wuss."

She stared at me disbelievingly and couldn't speak for sometime before she finally said, "the fact is, you humiliated Rexy and I wish he humiliates you more than you did to him."

Rexy...ehww! I was right. She was among those worshipping him and to think she has those sinister thoughts against me.

Lily matched forward, ready to pounce on her any minute. "You better back off, Courtney."

"Ignore her Lily," I said before I began wiping the white board.

Lily listened and joined me in wiping the white board. During the process my eyes fell on the floor to ceiling window and a shiver ran down my spine. On it where the boldly written words, 'Sydney, I hope you came prepared because today is going to be your worst nightmare'. All the courage I had earlier shattered all too quickly. This is bad, so bad. At this point, I am more than just regretting my actions yesterday. Lily quickly cleaned off those words.

"Sydney, don't worry. I'm here and will support you so you have to be strong," she said encouragingly and I nodded stiffly.

When we had finished cleaning the whiteboard, we heard a voice from the intercom requesting all students to gather at the auditorium. Once we got there, we took our sits.

Ms. Sophie walked towards the microphone. "Good morning students," she greeted.

"Good morning, Ms. Sophie," we all echoed.

"I have gathered you all here to introduce you all to the extracurricular activities for this semester." Saying that, she brought out a blue file. "Oh, I would also like to apologize for handling out your lockers late this year as a result of it being upgraded. Most things are not really happening as expected this semester," she chuckled. "Don't worry, you will be given your locker numbers as you leave the auditorium."

After the brief information, we all lined up to choose and sign up for an extracurricular activity of our choice. They were numerous activities to choose from. I joined the music club and cheerleading, noticing that these two wouldn't clash together. I found out from the cheerleader's captain that tryouts was on Wednesday. Lily who was already part of the cheerleading team was so excited that she gave me a big hug, lifting me off the floor. Aside from cheerleading, Lily had also signed up for another club, karate club. After the sign up and collecting our locker numbers, we hurriedly left in search of our lockers. Lily's locker was opposite mine. The new upgrade to the lockers was changing the combination locks to biometrics. We imputed our fingerprints and headed to class.

Once we were seated, the math teacher arrived. He introduced himself as Mr Wilson Turner. The class started and as it advanced, Mr Wilson asked a question and I raised my hands since no other hand was up but I wasn't picked. I turned to see who Mr Wilson picked and it was Mr rude. Why am I not surprised?

I guess I had been wrong. We had both raised our hands when the Mr Wilson threw the question. Mr rude answered correctly but before sitting, he winked at me. I turned away indifferently. What was he up to? I didn't think much about it and prepared myself for the next question.

In a short while, Mr Wilson wrote a problem on the board and asked who could solve it. I raised my hand and luckily, this time, I got picked. I went up to the white board and provided the solution—easy-peasy.

"Well done, miss Raymond," Mr Wilson complimented. "Now, those who didn't understand how she solved it, can indicate by raising their hands."

More than half the class did and I was told to explain it to them. I stood proudly like a peacock and began my explanation but just then, Mr rude grabbed my attention. He was blowing kisses at me. Has he gone mad? Why is he flirting with me? Is he blind that he couldn't tell I was the one standing there and not some other girl? Perhaps, he had forgotten his quest for revenge. This is the only reason I could think of on why he is flirting with me. No, that can't be right but if it is, his flirtation wouldn't work on me at all.

"Enough!" Mr Wilson's yelling jerked me out from my thoughts. "What was that? You got the explanation wrong," he shouted at me.

Oh no! I must have gone into one of my thinking routines and messed it up. Someone shoot me!

"With the nonsense you explained, I would think you weren't the one that solved the problem on the board. Will you get back to your seat." He was fuming in anger

I muttered an apology and went back to sit in the mist of giggles and whispering. Mr rude had a smirk on his face. I'm such a fool. How could I let my guard down?

While having our meal during lunch break, Lily asked, "what happened during maths class?"

Munching on my food, I said, "it's all Mr rude's fault."

Lily was confused, "who is Mr rude?"

I realized that all this while I haven't called him 'Mr rude' in front of Lily. I have been calling him that in my thoughts and saying it out loud kinda feels different, a good kind of difference and I loved it.

"Wait, are you talking about Rex?" She asked before I could reply.

I nodded as I sipped my juice.

She chuckled. "Why do you call him that?"

I rolled my eyes. "It's obvious, he is rude hence Mr rude."

Lily giggled briefly. "What did he do?"

I explained everything that happened earlier to her and at the end, she was bawling in laughter. Why is she laughing?

"Is not funny." My face was all gloomy as I crossed my arms looking at her.

"It sure is Sydney." Her eyes was all teary.

What the... "Enough with the laughter already." A cloud was starting to form on my head.

"Okay, okay," she said wiping the tears in her eyes. "But how could the kisses from a guy you hate so much make you fumble. Unless, you..." Her eyes where sparkling.

I faced palmed myself. "Lily," I dragging out her name. "You are getting it all wrong. I was only surprised by his actions. Remember, he was bent on taking his revenge on me."

"True," Lily nodded in understanding. "Oh! How I wish I was the one he blew those kisses at," she said dreamily.

I rolled my eyes at her. Obsessing over someone like that, hell no!
