"Miss, are you okay?" The driver's voice interrupted my thoughts.
"Oh, yes, I'm fine. Why do you ask?" I replied, slightly startled.
"The little miss here has been trying to talk to you, but you seemed lost in thought," he explained.
I turned to see Isabel, staring at me with her big, wide eyes. "Syd," she called softly.
"Sorry about that, Isa. I just had a lot on my mind. What were you saying?" I asked, trying to refocus my attention on her.
"Just stuff," Isabel replied a bit reluctantly.
I noticed her hesitation and realized she might have felt hurt that I hadn't been attentive to her. It made me wonder where her thoughts might have wandered during that time.
"Oh, Isa," I said, pulling her into a hug. "You know I would never purposefully ignore you. I just had a lot on my mind. Can you forgive me?" I asked, hoping to reassure her.
