Chapter 29 - Chapter 29

Jenny POV:

I trudged to my room, the soft carpet muffling my footsteps. I flopped onto the bed, the plush comforter enveloping me in warmth. As I lay there, Granny's words swirled in my mind like a gentle breeze.

"But is it really of no use?" I thought, my brow furrowed in concern. "What if he doesn't feel what I feel? I should forget about it."

I closed my eyes, feeling the weight of my eyelids like a gentle blanket. The soft hum of the air conditioner and the occasional creak of the house lulled me into a peaceful state. As I drifted off to sleep, my thoughts grew quieter, like the ebbing tide.

My breathing slowed, and my body relaxed, sinking into the mattress like a feather floating gently to the ground. The last thing I remembered was the soft whisper of Granny's words in my mind, "Follow your heart..."

As I slipped into slumber, the world outside my room melted away, leaving only the gentle darkness of my subconscious.

Alex POV:

I sat in my study room, surrounded by the faint scent of old books and the soft hum of the air conditioner. The clock on my wall read one AM, and I decided to call it a night. As I stood up, the leather chair creaked beneath me.

I walked to my room, the dim hallway lights casting long shadows behind me. But as I lay in bed, I couldn't shake off the restlessness. I pulled out my phone and scrolled through it mindlessly, until I landed on her live video. Again.

I watched it for what felt like the hundredth time, my eyes fixed on her bright smile and sparkling eyes. But as I gazed at her, a pang of annoyance hit me. I couldn't afford to be sentimental. I needed to remember that love was a weakness I couldn't indulge in.

"I need to stop this," I told myself, my voice firm and detached. "I need to remember, I can't love."

I closed my eyes, the darkness a welcome respite from the temptation. But even as I drifted off to sleep, her face lingered in my mind like a ghost.

The next morning, my alarm blared to life at four AM, shrill and unforgiving. I got out of bed, my movements mechanical, and began getting ready for work. The cold shower and sharp scent of my aftershave helped clear my head, but I knew I had to stay vigilant. I couldn't let my emotions cloud my judgment. Not again.

Alex POV:

As I descended the stairs, the soft creak of the wooden steps beneath my feet echoed through the hallway. My eyes landed on Miss Lydian, her presence as unwelcome as a cold draft on a winter morning.

"What brings you here?" I asked, my tone detached and uninterested.

Miss Lydian smiled, her voice dripping with sweetness. "Good morning, Alex. How was your night?"

I raised an eyebrow, my patience wearing thin. "For the last time, why are you here?"

She took a step closer, her heels clicking on the marble floor. "I came to check up on my soon-to-be boyfriend."

I warned her, my voice calm but firm. "One more step, and you'll regret it."

Miss Lydian's smile faltered, but she refused to back down. "When will you ever treat me nicely?"

I turned away, dismissing her. "Miss Lydian, leave my house now. I'm not in the mood for your games today."

I walked into the dining room, the aroma of freshly brewed coffee and toasted bread enveloping me. I took a seat, my eyes fixed on the breakfast spread before me.

Miss Lydian's voice rose, her anger palpable. "You can stare at an unknown lady for long, but can't stand my presence for two seconds!"

I raised my voice, my tone cold and detached. "Lower your voice, Miss Lydian. Leave my house, and don't come back."

She spat out her parting words before storming out. "Alex, you suck sometimes!"

I shrugged, unmoved, and continued eating my breakfast.

Lydian POV:

I slammed the door, my anger boiling over like a pot left unattended. I threw a vase across the room, the shattering glass a satisfying release.

The maid rushed in, her eyes wide with concern. "Ma, what happened?"

I rounded on her, my voice sharp. "Where is Posh, you stupid maid?"

The maid scurried out, returning with Posh in tow.

"Have you gotten any information about her?" I demanded.

Posh nodded, handing me a piece of paper with an address. "She stays in Flake Town, ma."

I smiled, a plan forming in my mind. "Get the car ready. I'm going there tomorrow."

Posh nodded, his eyes downcast. "Okay, ma."

I turned to the Maid. "Get my luggage ready."

They both nodded and left, leaving me to my thoughts.

"I'm coming for you," I whispered, my eyes fixed on the address in my hand.
