Chapter 9 - Chapter 9

Jenny's POV:

As I savored the delicious Chinese food, I exclaimed, "Wow, they taste good!"

Lisa smiled and replied, "Yes, and if you want more in the future, I'll buy for you."

I shook my head, feeling a bit uncomfortable with her generosity. "No, I don't want. Lisa, why are you so nice to me?" I asked, curiosity getting the best of me.

Lisa removed her mask, revealing the face of the girl I had saved earlier. I was taken aback, realizing the connection. "But hadn't you paid me already? Why all these again?" I asked, feeling a surge of anger and confusion.

Lisa explained, "Just that I have never seen someone with this kind of personality before. You're nice, considerate, and have a good heart. That's why I wanted to help you and even be friends with you."

I was touched by her words, but still felt uneasy about her spending money on me. "You can be my friend, but please don't spend your money again on me. I'm indebted to you, so I don't want another load on my head again," I said firmly.

Lisa nodded understandingly. "If you're thinking of paying me back for the extra clothes your friend took, then forget it. I won't accept it." She stood up, adding, "Anyway, I want to invite you to Mr. Jones William's birthday party. Here's the invitation card. My driver will pick you up tomorrow at 7:00."

As she introduced herself as Annie, explaining that she used the alias Lisa to maintain her celebrity privacy, I felt a whirlwind of emotions. Before I could process everything, she wore her mask again and left.

I sat there, staring at the invitation card, my mind racing. "Mr. Jones William... I know him, he's rich, famous, and known to be the sexy man because he's very handsome... but I don't fall for those." I couldn't help but think about how Tasha would react if she knew I was going to see the infamous Jones. I tucked the invitation into my bag, leaving the restaurant with a mix of excitement and trepidation.

Alex POV:

As I sat at my desk, I found myself pondering the enigmatic waitress. "Why does she fascinate me?" I mused, my tone detached. "She's merely a waitress, a fleeting distraction. Yet, I sense a connection." I dismissed the sentiment, focusing on the file before me - Jenny Core's.

I opened it, and my gaze fell upon her attached photograph. The resemblance was uncanny. It was her - the waitress. I continued reading, my interest piqued. Macos Restaurant, her place of employment. How...convenient.

My eyes scanned the file, absorbing every detail. Jenny Core's life laid bare before me. I felt no thrill, no excitement. Only a calculated interest.

After spending thirty minutes reviewing the file, I dropped it in my drawer and continued working. Just then, Leo walked into my office. "Boss, Mr. Jones wants you to attend his birthday party. He's given Miss Annie three invitation cards. He says if you don't come, he'll kill himself."

I raised an eyebrow at the dramatic threat. "Do I have to attend his birthday party?" I asked, slightly annoyed.

Leo knew me well enough to recognize my tone. "Are you sure you can make it, boss?" he asked.

I nodded reluctantly. "I'll try." Leo raised an eyebrow, knowing that I meant the opposite."Okay boss".

As Leo turned to leave, I added, "Wait, keep an eye on Jenny. I need to know her every move."

Leo POV:

My expression turned quizzical. This was strange. He had never asked me to keep tabs on someone before, especially not a seemingly innocent girl like Jenny.

As l left his office, l couldn't help but wonder why he was so interested in Jenny. "Has he... no, it's impossible," l thought to himself. "My boss can't fall in love with someone; his heart doesn't know what love is, so it's not possible for him to like her." I shook my head as l stepped into the elevator, lost in thought.
