Serena folded her arms as she gazed upon the people infront of her with disgust . She didn't know what she hated more in the chapel ; the candles that smelt like old lady's feet , the incense that made her think of sewage water or the terrible music . She wanted to shove that organ into the Thames and see it sink !
Why was she , a witch , in a chapel during afternoon Mass ? Of course the answer was that she had not gone of her free will . She'd been forced to attend one service atleast every fortnight to carry on working there and this was her first .
She looked around the chapel , it was brightly light , expensively furnished and maintained . The only other place she had seen with this much niceness in this orphanage was the Reverend father's office and that spoke volumes to Serena .
" Now , an hour dedicated to prayer . Bow your heads , lift your spirits and let the Lord touch you . " The Reverend father said and Serena felt like laughing .
This Trinity god they believed in was one fickle deity from what she had heard . He demanded absolute submission or he would cast his followers into a pit of fire for all eternity . Why would anyone willingly risk their lives like that ? Giving up their freedom and completely obeying like a machine ?
With witchcraft one had power and freedom , Serena knew that and she believed in that . The only deity she believed in was her strength and her will , not the gods of old or this one being worshipped infront of her . Her mother had taught her that in life you use your strength to get what your want .
A tingle ran through Serena's neck and she realised someone was giving her an evil eye . She looked around until her eyes landed on Sister Becca who was glaring at her to bow her head and show submission . With an eye row , she closed her eyes aswell and hoped the hour would pass .
But as soon as her eyes were shut Serena noticed something strange . A bright blue light was shining in the blackness , infront of her closed eyelids . She tilted her head and looked everywhere else , only seeing black but when her head turned to the front , the light was still there .
What was that ? She wondered and the light seemed to shift and move like a flame in the wind . Something about it seemed familiar though and she opened her eyes a fraction to see where it was coming from .
Serena sat in the second third pew , and there were two pews infront of her , and two people infront of her . The first was a big boy who looked to be in his seventeenth year and then infront of him was ...
" Of course , " Serena said when she saw who was in the first pew .
Serena waited until the Mass was over and when the boys were walking away she waited until that one was about to pass her . When he did , she closed her eyes and sure enough , a bright blue light shined in her eyes .
She then opened them and looked at the boys retreating back . She saw that it wasn't tangled around him anymore but that didn't explain the blue light .
What is it doing ? She wondered as the boy left the chapel .
...
Christan looked around him slowly , unsure of where he was or how had gotten there . The place was dark , with dark grey walls around him and seemed to be a passage . On one end there was a bright light but at the other end there was darkness . He decided to follow the light .
He ran towards the light , his feet feeling like they were moving through water . His mind couldn't fully grasp this , he didn't understand it but this place , wherever it was , was nice . Christan smiled as he reached the exit with the light shining and he jumped through it to the other side .
A bright moon was above the sky , with the stars twinkling like diamond lights on fire. Christan looked around himself and saw he was in the garden , at night time . That was very strange, he thought , but what was even stranger was that he was not alone .
There was a boy sitting on the fountain looking at a rose in his hand and Christan felt a sense of de ja vu . Had he seen him before ? Did he know him ? He tried to remember but his mind felt too weightless , too free from everything .
" Hello . " The boy on the fountain waved at him with a big smile . Christan waved back and the boy got up and hopped towards him , he did not walk but skipped and hopped .
Christan saw the boy was sixteen at most , with light brown hair light straw and freckles . His face was oval shaped and he had a slight scar on his bottom lip . He wore dark clothes but Christan couldn't see what they were as if they were made of smoke , they remained intangible .
" Do you want to play ? " The boy asked him and Christan heard his voice was deep but bubbly aswell .
" I don't know . " He answered , " Who are you ? "
" Do you really want to know ? " The boy said and he jumped and rapped his arms around Christan in a hug , shocking him a bit .
" I don't know either . " The boy said as he let go of Christan and looked around the garden .
" What are you looking for ? " Christan said as the boy kept looking around the garden .
The boy smiled and went back to the fountain , sitting down and holding a rose in his hands . Christan followed him and sat on the fountain aswell , waiting for the boy to talk but the boy didn't talk .
" What are you doing here ? " Christan asked him .
" I am waiting . " The boy said as he placed the rose into the water of the fountain . Christan saw that alot of roses were floating in it , like red drops of blood in its blue waters .
" Waiting for who ? " he asked the boy .
" For Luis . " He answered with a smile , " My lover . "
" Your lover ? " Christan asked getting more confused and he felt a cold rush through his body as if he was in a breeze .
" Yes , " The boy said getting his attention , " My Luis , do you know him ? "
" I know of Lewis in the left wing . He is turning fifteen next fall . " Christan said but the boy shook his head .
" No , my Luis isn't an orphan . " He said , " My lover is Luis . "
" Luis who ? " Christan asked him feeling the chill now seeping into his bones . Where's was that cold coming from ?
" Luis Lechont , The Reverend father of Pearl orphanage . He is my lover ." The boy said and Christan felt the cold grip his heart and everything went black .
