Chapter 31 - The Academy's Defensive Magic Circuit

Felicia blankly stared at Henry. For a few seconds, she pondered in her mind if she should even try.

"I'll try."

Felicia decided. This was a rare opportunity for her. As someone who had been starved of them, she knew the importance of a good chance.

"I will teach you along the way. Don't worry." Henry smiled at her.

Felicia relaxed after hearing his reassurance.

The duo entered their own world and ignored the others in the large and open room. A few were intently listening while pretending to be focusing on their blueprints.

Very soon, no one was doing anything besides listening to Henry explain the parts of the magic circuit to her. Henry forgot most of his magic knowledge, but he still knew a lot of the basics.

He was smart. He might not remember the advanced knowledge he had, but he could extrapolate with his intelligence and familiarity with the subject.

Felicia was engrossed as she listened to him. She was a student at this moment, no more, no less.

Meanwhile, Prospect had long lost his cool. He knew most of the things Henry was saying, but the way he explained them brought a new perspective to them.

It was like he was seeing a box from one side and suddenly seeing the whole box with all its other sides. It was an enlightenment that improved Prospect's understanding.

Henry spent a few hours teaching Felicia the basics of magic circuits and the parts of the magic circuit in the blueprint. He stopped because he had already finished explaining the whole thing to Felicia.

He needed a few more examples to teach her the other stuff.

Henry realized that everyone was crowded around him and Felicia. He didn't pay specific attention before. It was almost as if Henry was doing a lesson for all of them.

"Cough."

Prospect was right behind Henry. He felt awkward standing there. He was so focused on listening to Henry that he forgot that he was the only magus teacher here.

He walked away and pretended he didn't do something unfit for his position.

Henry didn't mind. He looked at the other students and nodded his head.

They scrambled back to their tables and started analyzing the magic circuits on their blueprints.

There were about fifty students in this whole room. It was quite spacious with many tables with singular chairs.

"Analyze and tell me once I come back," Henry said to Felicia.

She nodded her head and stared at the blueprint while recalling Henry's lessons earlier. She could sense that Henry had guided her to the answer already. She only needed to unveil it.

Henry walked to Prospect who was staring at a blueprint on his own table. He bowed as soon as he saw Henry walk up.

"Thank you."

It was a genuine thanks filled with utmost gratitude. Prospect was the second-best person in the academy regarding magic circuit knowledge.

Even he thought that Henry was the best magic circuit teacher he knew. That was right. He also saw Henry as better than his own teacher.

It was insane to think about. Prospect could only imagine what kind of master Henry had in the past to have the ability to bestow him great wisdom.

"It was nothing." Henry shook his head.

Henry found it worth it. He also needed to learn the status of magic circuits in the current era. Prospect seemed like a good candidate to ask him for advice.

"Your master must be filled with great wisdom to be able to teach you so much."

Prospect stared at Henry's eyes, hoping to see him agree.

"No. I learned them on my own. She only taught me how to become a magus."

Henry broke Prospect's expectations. He almost spat his saliva upon hearing those ridiculous words.

Prospect regained his calm and realized that Henry must be boasting. That was it. Otherwise, it was too unbelievable.

Henry was not lying. He remembered how he had to steal books from countries in order to expand his knowledge, and with his experience in the past, the basics were as familiar to him as he was familiar with his own name.

"I-I see… Do you want to see the other blueprints? We have several copies for each section."

Prospect pointed at the large scrolls stored on shelves at the end of the room.

"Can I see the magic circuit and maintain it?" Henry asked.

He was here for contribution points. It was already afternoon after he gave Felicia a lesson. He was eager to go ahead and do what he was after.

"Ah! I understand. At your level, it shouldn't be hard to see through the magic circuit bare eye."

Prospect's gaze sharpened. He scrutinized Henry if he would react to his words.

"Yes." Henry nodded his head.

Prospect was shaken. Henry didn't seem like he was lying, nor did he care.

"Sure…"

Prospect brought Henry out of the Magic Circuit Maintenance Building and into the core of the academy. It was located at the very center. There were circles of other magic circuits designed to protect the defensive magic circuit from the inside.

They arrived at the dome building and entered.

A huge magic circuit was engraved on the floor. There were thick lines stretching out to the four cardinal directions and to the four in-betweens.

In total, there were eight thick lines. Continuous waves of surging mana flowed out. The inside of the dome was covered with a fog of mana.

The place was suitable for absorbing mana, but it would affect the performance of the magic circuit.

Under the glow of the mana, Henry and Prospect walked in. They stepped on the lines, and it didn't affect the performance of the magic circuit.

"The mana source is below?" Henry asked and stared at the floor.

"Correct. The best mana mine in the kingdom is here. We absorb the mana instead of letting it condense into mana crystals. The royal family will hide here in times of turmoil because of the effectiveness of this mana source."
