The mother and son duo thanked Uncle Fred and left in a hurry. It was obvious that even Uncle Fred wanted none of them there. He was a bit itchy to kick them out.
"Where do we go now?" Felicia asked and looked at her son.
It was hard for her to imagine that he was the same son she always had. He seemed to have become brighter and more determined to do things.
"To the city for registration."
Henry nodded at her. He didn't know the way, so he let her lead the way first.
"All our money is home, Dear," Felicia reminded him.
"It's not a problem, Mother."
Henry made several hand motions and created a ball of flame in his hand. It flickered slightly like candlelight and cast an orange hue of light.
"Dear!"
Felicia was stunned. It was only the other day when he chanted a spell and made a flash of bright light.
She realized how he managed to save her. And what shocked her the most was his lack of chanting. She heard a lot about magi throughout the years.
It was said that they chant their spells to harness the power of magic power within their bodies. Her son's ability must've greatly helped in saving her.
The slightly dim eyes of Felicia brightened a bit as hope was within her grasp. Finally, they might be able to escape the life of a lowly commoner.
"Congratulations..!"
Felicia became a bit teary at this realization. She went forward and hugged him. He was a little bit taller than her, so she embraced him tightly while pressing her head in his bosom.
"Mother…"
Henry had mixed emotions facing this mother of his in this life. At the same time, he wanted to be free, and at the other, he wanted to keep her safe. These two conflicting emotions battled within him.
"I've always… always… believed in my son."
Henry's heart warmed. His conflicting emotions changed. He appreciated this mother of his. Although she was like this because of her trauma, her emotions were real. It was only being revealed now.
"Thanks, Mother…"
Henry patted her back. He changed his plans. He wanted to train this woman to become a successful magus. It would be his way of thanking her.
A few minutes later, Felicia's mood calmed down. She let go of Henry, wiped her tears, and led the way.
This experience changed Henry's view of this world. He might be from the far past and lost everything he had, but he still had new things he needed to cherish in the present.
Felicia was very familiar with the area around these parts and easily led him to the city. They entered and the familiar sight made the duo relax.
The city wasn't truly safe as there were crimes, murders, and such, but it was better than being hunted by a hobgoblin in the woods. For them, this was a safe haven.
They entered the city hall at the very center, where the City Guild was located. Many mercenaries came through the entrance and some reeked of blood.
Felicia jumped in fright as she caught a sniff of someone that smelled like goblins. Their strong and familiar smell scared her.
"Mother, relax."
Henry patted her back and led the way. Felicia nodded her head and followed close behind him.
At this place, she only trusted her son. His magus ability also gave her a sense of protection.
They fell in line for a bit and came in front of the receptionist.
"New faces. Are you here for a request?"
The receptionist was a young man. He seemed to be an amateur at this place. He only glanced at them and continued working on the papers on his desk.
"We're here to register as mercenaries."
As soon as Henry finished speaking, the receptionist stopped and looked at them with eyes filled with suspicion.
"You two?"
He was skeptical. They didn't look like they'd last a day out there.
"Is there anyone else standing with us?" Henry retorted and looked behind them.
"You two know that mercenaries hang at the tip of a knife's blade. One wrong move and you two are dead."
"We know." Henry nodded.
The receptionist became silent and looked at their faces. After a minute, he sighed and gave them two forms to fill up.
"Fill this up and head to the registration desk."
The receptionist was too busy to bother with them.
Henry took the papers and walked to the side with his mother. There were pencils for them to use to fill up the form.
Henry was silent and passed the other paper to Felicia. At this point, he also saw her as a disciple, so he didn't speak much.
"Are you sure?"
Felicia asked as she filled up the form. She was having second thoughts about this whole thing. She suddenly remembered that she might encounter more goblins in the future by taking this path.
"Yes. I'll teach you magic," Henry replied and didn't bother with her anymore.
Felicia was stunned. She blinked her eyes repeatedly and filled up the form. The confidence Henry exuded made her believe that he would really teach her magic.
Henry couldn't remember most of his memories, but he still knew the basics of the basics. It was so ingrained in him that it was impossible for him to forget them.
It would be trivial for Henry to teach his mother. It would be up to her as to how much she would be able to learn from him. If she did poorly, he would stop, if she did great, he would teach her everything he knew.
That was Henry's virtue as a magus. He doesn't teach for the sake of teaching but for the sake of spreading magic knowledge.
A while later, the duo finished and arrived at the registration desk. There was a woman behind, and she sighed after seeing them walk over with the filled-up forms.
"You two want to die?"
"We won't die," Henry coolly responded.
