Henry sighed seeing the look on Felicia's face. With his memories from his previous life, he could tell that she was simply coping. In truth, she was deeply traumatized. Each person had their own way of coping. This was Felicia's way.
Henry agreed and that made Felicia relax. She made a new purpose to continue living and that was enough for her. The thought of suicide went to the back of her mind.
"Mother, let's go. We need to leave this area. Who knows when the hobgoblin will return?" Henry said.
Felicia looked down at her naked body and nodded her head. Henry's lack of reaction to her naked body made her feel nothing about it too.
He didn't even glance down at her body to take a look. She couldn't tell what it was, but something was different about her son. He seemed more… handsome.
Henry walked ahead. He carefully scanned the area as the two threaded through the darkness of the night. The moonlight illuminated their way through the thin canopy of trees above them.
Soon, they left the woods. There was a house in the distance. It was surrounded by a large open field. Rows of crops swayed with the cold wind.
Felicia stopped in place. She instinctively wanted to hide herself from other people. She could ignore it with her son as he was family, but strangers were different.
"Wait here, Mother."
Henry sensed Felicia's timidness. He walked ahead and left her there.
He soon reached the door to the house and knocked. A faint sound of someone walking could be heard inside.
Henry was slightly nervous.
The door opened and a familiar face greeted Henry.
"It's you!?"
"Ah!"
Similarly, a shocked expression was plastered on Henry's face. The two of them pointed at each other.
"Uncle, you're a coward," Henry calmly said.
"Tch. You're alive, huh? Come in," the uncle reluctantly invited him in.
"Do you have extra clothes? My mother is outside."
Henry stopped him just as the uncle was about to turn.
"Oh? Wait here."
A few minutes later, the old uncle threw him a set of female clothes. They were all random, and who knew where he got them?
"Cough."
"Uncle must've been riding left and right."
Henry hurriedly left. The uncle's face darkened, but he didn't say anything in return.
"What happened, Dear?" Felicia asked.
She didn't fully hear the conversation earlier.
"It's nothing, Mother. Be careful of that uncle. He's frisky with women," Henry warned.
"Oh."
Felicia nodded her head and took the clothes from him. She quickly wore them and a puzzled look was on her face as she wore these clothes.
As a woman, she was fully aware that women liked to wear matching outfits. These clothes seemed like they came from different owners.
She realized what Henry meant and a look of surprise appeared on her face. She didn't expect Henry to realize that.
The two of them went to the uncle's house.
"Mr. Fred, hello," Felicia greeted with a forced smile.
"Hahahaha… I'm glad you're safe."
The more he looked at Felicia, the more he understood how Henry realized his hobby. He couldn't help but feel more admiration for this kid.
"Thank you for letting us intrude."
Felicia bowed and entered the door with Henry behind her.
Henry sneered at Uncle Fred. He still had a grudge because Uncle Fred left him. He could understand his actions, but it left a thorn between them.
Uncle Fred shook his head. He was apologetic, but he didn't feel bad for his previous actions.
They were there to save Henry, but he brought them calamity instead. In his opinion, Henry should be grateful that he bothered.
"The two of you can sleep on the floor of the living room. My house is small. I'm single and only have a room for myself."
Uncle Fred brought them bedsheets, two blankets, and two pillows.
"Thank you," Henry answered and prepared the place for his mom.
The two of them slept. A few minutes later, Henry felt Felicia hug him as she shook a bit.
"Let me hug you, Dear…"
Her words were filled with fear and anxiousness. She was reminded of the time when she was dragged out of their house by the goblins.
Hugging her son made her feel at ease. Especially after he saved her.
The duo slept soundly after that.
Morning came as they woke up to the sound of Uncle Fred preparing food.
The duo woke up and ate breakfast.
As they were eating, Uncle Fred asked them a question.
"So what are your plans?"
Henry and Felicia stopped eating at the same time. They looked at each other.
Uncle Fred glanced at them and continued eating.
"Maybe we should become mercenaries," Henry said as he ate.
His suggestion shocked Uncle Fred and Felicia.
Felicia wasn't expecting that answer at all. She looked at him with a stunned facial expression.
"Mother, I have some abilities. You can help me by bringing us food and stuff. Your job will be to make sure we don't die of hunger."
Henry looked her in the eyes. His words were enunciated seriously. Felicia could tell he wasn't joking.
"We should return to our house, Dear."
Felicia didn't like the idea of becoming a mercenary. They were safe from danger in their house.
By becoming a mercenary, the two of them would head to danger every time.
"Mother, that house is not safe anymore. The… thing will always try to come look for me and you."
Henry felt uncomfortable saying the word 'hobgoblin' to his mom who had suffered a lot.
"..."
A pained expression appeared on Felicia's face. She remembered the horror and trauma she suffered in that house. After thinking about it, she agreed with her son's wise words.
"All right." Felicia nodded her head.
"Are you two sure?" Uncle Fred asked with some concern.
Anyone knew that a mercenary died quickly. Few of them could survive for long. The pay was good, but the risks were high.
"I'll help my son achieve his dream," Felicia replied and nodded her head.
Her heart warmed realizing that Henry thought everything so through for her. The way she looked at him changed.
He was a dependable man now. It made her feel proud as a mother.
"Thanks, Mother."
