Chapter 14 - Chapter 14: Ice Golem

After Mar dodges the icicles which fell from the ceiling, he and the ice golem look at each other. Or at least he thinks it is looking at him, the ice golem doesn't really have eyes. It clearly doesn't need them to see because it starts conjuring and shooting icicles rapidly at Mar. Mar immediately circulates magic through his body, the icicles are too fast to be dodged normally. Mar's plan against the ice golem is simple. Shoot a destructive arrow right at its core, if that doesn't kill it stab its core.

Mar knows he has to use the destructive arrow to break past the thick layers of ice that cover the core, but he can't get an opportunity to do so. The icicles keep coming and the ice golem constantly walks forward to attack Mar with its arms. Between dodging icicles and dodging the golem's fist he doesn't have many options. Mar suddenly runs a good distance away from the ice golem and pulls the arrow out of his quiver, he nocks the arrow and knows he doesn't have much tim— An icicle is milliseconds away from hitting Mar as he barely dodges. Mar's arrow falls onto the ground in the meantime and Mar barely has time to pick it up before another icicle comes shooting his way.

The only way Mar is going to get a good shot on the ice golem is if he is behind multiple stalagmites that the ice golem can't see through. If the ice golem can't see him it shouldn't be able to shoot icicles at him or at least Mar will have a shield to tank the icicles while he charges up a destructive arrow. Mar quickly enacts his plan and dashes farther away from the ice golem. He goes so far he can barely hear the sound of the ice golem's footsteps echoing throughout the cavern. He quickly draws the arrow from his quiver and nocks it on his bowstring. Mar closes his eyes briefly and begins to channel the magic to his arrow.

*Crunch* *Crunch* *Crunch*

The ice golem marches closer, mar whispers, "just a few more seconds".

*Crunch* *Crunch* *Crunch*

The destructive arrow is almost charged

*Crunch* *Crunch* *Crunch*

The destructive arrow is fully charged and Mar pulls back the bow, the magic contained within this destructive arrow is more than he had ever put in an arrow before. Mar's right hand begins to numb as holding the bowstring back becomes difficult. The pressure that the arrow exerts on Mar is unlike any other arrow he has shot.

The ice golem comes into view and Mar immediately looks for its core. He makes out the silver ball that is right in the middle of its chest, almost acting like a heart. Mar lets go of the arrow and aims it straight at the silver ball. He sees the arrow leave his bow and then arrive halfway between him and the ice golem in an instant. A sheet of ice is conjured in front of the ice golem, acting as a shield, it isn't enough.

The arrow flies straight through the makeshift shield, losing a bit of speed but still retaining the magic that will blow up the golem. The arrow keeps flying straight towards the ice golem, not giving it any time to dodge. The arrow embeds itself into the ice golem and the explosion that results from it sends ice everywhere. The ice golem falls on its back as a result from the explosion Mar has a vicious grin on his face as he looks towards the golem, but, it hadn't died. The ice golem slowly moves upright, sitting on its butt. its core, exposed but not damaged.

Mar's face whitens he puts all of his magic to his legs and runs, the world turns dark as no magic is going to his eyes, he ignites his dagger with a sliver of magic he siphons off from his legs and while doing so he sharpens the edge of the dagger with magic and dashes forward. Mar can make out the ice golem forming new ice over its core, healing. Mar appears in front of the ice golem in an instant and slashes downwards with both arms. He hears,

*CLANG*, followed by a

*CRKK*.

The core had been broken. Mar was again, Victorious. Mar sits down on the ground, ready for the backlash from forcing his legs to run at top speed. Regardless of the pain, he had won.
