Sarah watched as Phileas finished the sausages and egg fry on his plate. He had a very distinct manner of eating, like fancy people in a posh restaurant. He was, indeed, very good looking but Sarah preferred the likes of average faces. She felt bothered by flawless faces, almost as if she did not deserve them. At the thought of it, her hand went to her forehead. She always felt her forehead was a tad bit too big. Maybe I should get fringes, but how will curly fringes look on me?
Break time's incident from that day came across her mind, so she attempted to start a conversation, "So, why is Jake not allowed near me?"
Phileas continued to eat in silence. Despite his table manners and fine etiquettes, he was one stubborn person. By this time it was evident that he refused to respond to any name other than the ones from his dimension.
"Hello? Phileas? Why is the heir to the Ankur tribe a threat?"
"You will die," he replied.
Shocking. Die? Is it not a bit too much to say at get go? Sarah was still very unfamiliar with the whole different dimension, magic and wings concept. Heck, she did not even know how to process her identity at this point. Who am I? What mess did I get tangled in?
"Yes, but why? Will he stab me? Will he swallow me? Is he a demon?"
"You are prophesised to die in the hands of Brave Ankur. Father says it is a forbidden love".
Forbidden love. Sounds very cheesy, more like a romantic novel or a fairy tail. But that is not the point here.
"Oh? And why do I have to leave? What is a princess without powers anyways? That is assuming everyone from your dimension has magical powers".
Phileas looked up. The dark orb of his eyes locked on her face, searching for an answer, "I just know I have to keep you alive. The sorcerer who assassinated your parents will come after you. And then there is Brave. I have responsibilities".
Sarah was not quite satisfied by these remarks. If she has to stay alive, then it better be by her own efforts. She is not a damsel in distress who needs a saviour. But then I have no powers. She looked down at her palms. Could she produce a knife like Jake did? She raised her right hand to the air and waved about, expecting something to happen. Nothing happened. She picked up a spoon and squinted her eyes to stare at it with full concentration attempting to bend it with telepathic abilities. The spoon just seemed to mock her. She gave up and looked towards Phileas, but he was gone. Damn, I can't even vanish. Can Jake teleport?
She got up from her seat and turned to leave but Phileas was standing just inches from her. She jumped to take a step back and almost fell, but he reached out in time and held her by the waist. He leaned forward bringing his face close to hers.
"There is no magic in you right now. I wonder how to bring it to you. You are completely human".
Sarah stared at him, her jaws still hanging, then slipping out of his grasp she ran straight to her room and locked the door. Phileas stood where he was and turned to look at the stairs she took. She hasn't changed a bit. Just a little prettier. He looked down at his hand which held her just a while ago. Slowly the fingers curled into a fist. I will not let you harm a hair on her. I will protect her.
In her room, Sarah leaned against the door with her back to it. Gosh, he isn't just good looking, he is devilishly handsome. Her hand went to her chest, where her heart was beating fast. Even so, it beat deeper for Jake. She longed to see him again. They just met and all this had to happen. She collapsed on her bed and looked up at the ceiling. This turn of event, at the moment, involves herself, Phileas, and Jake. Phileas is straight forward and it seems that he does not know much other than about his duty. That leaves her with one other source of information, Jake. She tossed and turned in the sheets. It takes a lot of courage to face him. But she must do so as soon as possible. Phileas will obviously follow her but she must find out.
Sarah jumped off the bed, put on jeans and a t-shirt and grabbed a jacket on her way out.
"Mom, I am off to meet the heir of the Ankur tribe. Phileas, show me the way. I promise not to get near him. I will just talk".
Off she went to meet Jake again.
