Morning : 7 AM
Kim Hajin's Pov
After waking up, I began making preparations for the Djins that I would kill today. After some time, I heard some noise. It seems that Chae Nayun woke up. But she was, for some reason, red on the face.
"Do you have a Fever?" I asked tilting my head.
"N-No I don't! Why do you even care?!" She asked, stuttering a little.
"Well whatever... and its nothing strange to ask for someone's health if they seem to have a fever" I said
"Also, don't ask me if you catch a cold. I don't want my time to be wasted" I added
"Of course! Why would I ask someone like you?!"
We bickered a little more and started preparing breakfast. On the menu was grilled meat along with some vegetables and mushrooms that I picked from the forest while scouting. After eating, Chae Nayun left and I began to find a high Place from where I could snipe the Djins.
After finding a tall tree, I climbed and converted my desert eagle into a sniper. Since the training gun wouldn't do much damage even if converted into a sniper, I should use the desert eagle to ensure 100% completion of the task.
After setting up my sniper, I used my [Thousand Miles Eye] of [Sharpshooter] and began to search for Rachel. After searching for a few minutes, I saw Rachel going around the forest while hunting monsters
'It seems they have yet to make a move.' After sometime, I saw that she was surrounded by monsters. 'Hmm... it seems that the blood of the monsters she killed attracted the other ones that were near'.
I readied my sniper to shoot anytime but retreated it after seeing that someone came to help. 'Oh? is that how you plan to play?' Some people were now in front of Rachel. Although they seemed cadets from the outside, they were actually Djins. They probably thought of gaining Rachel's trust first and than attack her.
It seems that they were introducing one another. I focused [Stigma] on my ears so I could hear their conversation.
"Who are you?" Rachel asked while keeping her guard up. It seems that she still doesn't trust other cadets 'even though they are not cadets... '.
"Oh? if it isn't Rachel-sii. Why hello. I'm *Yoo Yeonhoo*. These are my teammates. We were just scouting for monster and happen to come across you by Coincidence."
"..." Rachel didn't say anything.
"Hmm, would you like to team up? We have set up our base near the mountains on that side near from here. We also have resources so you can also trade if you want"
"...Fine" She dropped her guard and started following them. It seems they want to ambush her. I checked where they were heading and it was true, they were actually going towards the mountains. The only difference was that there were some Cadets(Djins) hiding there. I could easily see them because of [Observation and Reading] and their disguise was useless against me.
A Few Minutes Later
They were now near the place where the ambush would take place. I again readied my sniper and prepare to shoot at any time. It seems Rachel had caught the difference in the air and was on guard.
"Okay guys. We have reached our ba--" As he was saying that, a knife flew on the left side of his face and made a small wound.
"Huh?!?! Guys! We're ambushed, Prepare for Battle!" He screamed as he took out his weapon. It was a sword. His teammates also pulled out their weapons and Rachel tool stance readying her Rapier. There were two swordsmen, an archer and a mage in their group. Rachel on the other hand was not near the group and as a result, the assassins had surrounded her. There were five of them.
One of the assassins rushed toward Rachel with a short sword. Rachel blocked with her sword and changed its direction, than tried to stab the shoulder. It seems she wasn't going for the head and was planning to pull out some information from them. The assassin dodged and retreated since he was at a disadvantage of firepower.
Suddenly, a fire ball flew towards Rachel, it was aimed at her leg. She barely avoided it by quickly turning to the side as the ball of fire flew from near her leg. She than heard a noise.
"Sorry Rachel-sii! I missed, I was trying to aim at the assassin and you got in the way"
"..." It seemed she had confirmed her suspicion. They were indeed trying to take her by surprise. Now she new that she was at a huge disadvantage both in numbers and the nature of the field, the rocky mountains.
Because she was in her own thought since a fire ball was fired at her, taking the chance, one of the assassins again rushed toward her but this time with one more backing him up. Once he got close, he quickly pulled out a knife and aimed at her stomach. She barely dodged a critical hit but still got a small wound on her arm. At the same time, an arrow flew towards her with great speed and stabbed her shoulder.
"Uhh!" She gave out a voice of pain but quickly regained her senses. She escaped backwards as she thrusted her rapier trying to aim for a critical. Luckily, it stabbed an assassin that was rushing towards Rachel for close-range combat. He backed down and Rachel used that time to run.
Unfortunately, it seems that her "teammates" decided to stop acting as a Magic ball flew towards and exploded as it hit the ground near her. She was thrown towards the side from the shock as an arrow hit her leg. Now, she was unable to run and also had difficulty in fighting since one of her shoulders was also not in good condition.
When she had lost hope, a sound could be heard as the head of one of the assassins was blown into pieces, I had decided to intervene since I thought she would have not survived it if he hadn't helped. It was because the Djins were stronger than they were originally meant to be. Actually, it was gonna go as Rachel fighting them alone and killing them barely and would than meet Kim Suho's party. Since Chae Nayun had not yet met Kim Suho since she first met Kim Hajin, the party was late. There are a lot of variables that were changed by the Co-Author.
The assassins scattered while in confusion of what had just happened. Another sound could be heard as I fired another bullet. It blew with great speed and hit one of them in the eye, than instantly penetrating his skull and killing him.
'Serves you right'. There were only three left now, excluding the other disguised Djins in the form of teammates.
Upon seeing that another one of them got killed, they began running in different directions to avoid being shot. 'Quick on the uptake huh?' I thought as I reloaded my sniper. The few seconds of confusion among the assassins had given enough time to Rachel as she threw her Rapier towards one of them. It penetrated his heart, killing him on spot.
During that time, the teammates that were hiding decided to make a move as one of them flew towards Rachel. He was a sword user. It seemed that they had no further plan of hiding. An archer also began to aim at Rachel. I quickly fired a bullet aiming for the archer. Upon being hit, she fell down from the tree, dead. That little time was enough confusion for the team as Rachel used her mana to call her rapier back to her. Instead of catching it, she changed its direction using mana as the rapier penetrated the chest of the swordsman.
While she did that, I killed the other two assassins as they dropped down the ground. The other three Djins, judging that they were at a risk, began escaping from the back. 'It can't be helped' Rachel was exhausted after fighting for her life.
"Looks like I have to intervene more directly in the fight... I just hope that I don't get caught by Cube." I said to myself as I converted my sniper back into a desert eagle.
I quickly used teleportation and teleported towards the escaping Djins shortening the distance as SP was consumed. Obviously, something like short range teleportation was nearly not enough. I used Dash, spending a lot more SP and rushed towards them as I jumped from branch to branch in the trees. They were not that far, only a few hundred meters away and could easily be caught up to if I used Long Dash just once. Since I only used short dash, an Idea(Skill) I had created while in my free time on the island, If I used Long Dash, I was confident that I could reach them in a few seconds.
Doing so, I used 10 SP as I rushed towards them with great speed as I utilized the skill. 'I wonder how this will turn out...' .
Rachel's POV
I was following a team as I walked through the forest. They said that they had set up their base near the mountains in this direction. According to them, it wasn't too far so I decided to follow since I also wanted to trade some food. Although I had quite a lot of points, I had only hunted monster. I only encountered a few small animals like rabbits that were edible.
As we were headed towards the base, I started to get a bad feeling for some reason. My suspicion was confirmed when I encountered a group of assassins. They had the same cloths as the one I encountered on the Exam. At that time, I was not used to their fighting style so I got injured badly. Luckily, Hajin-sii was there as he killed the assassin in one shot using a shotgun...? He than even helped me as he used bandages to stop my bleeding. After that, he even carried me, on his back of course, to the rescue team since my leg was injured. When I asked him for why he helped me, he said he was one of my 'fans'. I at first thought nothing of it and even thought of using him, but quickly discarded the thought thinking it was not right.
While thinking, I heard a voice. It seems that we had reached the location. As one of their team members started talking, a knife flew by his face injuring it. He screamed in fear and confusion as we prepared to fight.
This had confirmed my suspicion. This was more than just a mere 'coincidence'. There was a great chance that they were trying to aim for me from the start. And seeing the cloths, it seemed that they were also sent by Lancaster.
I had a hard time fighting as I was at a disadvantage in numbers. They also weren't a good match for my fighting style so it was difficult for me to escape unharmed.
"Uhh!"
While fighting, an arrow stabbed me in the shoulders as I shouted in pain. Usually, there won't be this much pain with just an arrow, but it was coated with poison which was never a good thing.
Continuing the fight, I realized that there was nothing I could do. The enemy's numbers was just too big for a single cadet. Not to mention that the so called 'teammates' were also just decoys. '...' All of this was probably planned by him. They were probably Djins since all the damage I gave them was getting healed quickly. I couldn't aim for a critical since the others were getting in the way.
When I was about to loose hope as one of the assassins rushed toward me. Just then, I suddenly heard a sound, the sound of a bullet. I tilted my head upwards as I saw the assassin dead on the ground. He was killed with a single shot, but the damage was too much for a bullet as his head was completely blown into pieces. 'That's...'
While there was confusion among them, another one fell down as another sound could be heard. It was aimed at the eye, it was quite the painful way to make someone die. They were Djins, probably, so their mind would have probably been accelerated when he died, giving him a few seconds to experience the grewsome pain.
Seeing the chance, I quickly threw my Rapier towards one of the running Djins as it penetrated his heart as he dropped on the grown screaming in pain. Suddenly, I saw two of the team members running toward me. One was a male swordsman while the other was a female archer.
As I tried to stand up, I heard yet another sound as the skull of the archer was penetrated. Taking the chance, I quickly used mana to reach out to my Rapier. Instead of making it fly towards my hand, I used more mana to change its direction and used it to stab the running swordsman.
"URRGH!!" He screamed as the sword penetrated his stomach. It seems he was weaker than the other Djins as he dropped on the ground. It was enough to kill him on the spot.
I heard the other three members started running trying to escape. I couldn't catch them since I was injured. I could barely walk, but if my guess is not wrong, I doubt they can escape. I probably don't need to worry about them escaping if what I think it true.
I turned my attention towards my smart watch and viewed the map to see his location. Upon seeing his position, I felt relieved. He had began running towards the direction towards where the Djins had escaped.
I relaxed a little and took a few long breaths to relieve my stress. I could finally ease a little thinking that everything would be fine. But I suddenly heard noise in the bushes. I turned my head towards the sound and saw Kim Suho along with other people.
"Huh" He voiced out as he seemed surprised. Judging from his reaction, he was probably thinking what the situation was.
"Why did you sto--" I heard a familiar voice from the back. It was Chae Nayun asking why he Suddenly stopped.
'It seems there's still some trouble left before I could relax.' I thought since I would probably be questioned for quite a while now.
