Chapter 7 - RedCrest High

It was another day at RedCrest High School, where time was measured not in hours but in the digital pulse of a city that never slept. Ray and Scott, faithful to their tradition of dancing on the edge of punctuality, it was always only Ray who has the late-coming culture but today Scott's been initiated. They arrived at the school gates just as the chimes of the clock tower announced the beginning of classes.

RedCrest High was an architectural wonder, a testament to the fusion of technology and design. Its towering buildings seemed to reach for the heavens, their sleek surfaces gleaming under the morning sun. Holographic displays adorned the exterior, constantly streaming information, news, and announcements in a dazzling display of digital artistry.

Within the school's confines, students and teachers alike were enveloped in a seamless blend of the real and the virtual. Augmented reality glasses, as universal as backpacks, adorned the faces of students, providing a constant stream of information and enhancing the learning experience. Nano-robots, invisible to the naked eye, scurried along the floors, ensuring that the school remained impeccably clean.

The classrooms themselves were a vision of the future. There are Interactive holographic projectors transformed dull walls into immersive learning environments, where history came alive and equations danced in the air. Each student possessed a holographic tablet, which is a window to a world of digital textbooks, collaborative projects, and interactive simulations. Even the school cafeteria was a spectacle of automation, with robotic chefs preparing gourmet meals at the touch of a holographic menu.

Ray and Scott slipped into their seats. Suddenly an hologram was displayed showing a news caster who was reporting the ALPHA'S disaster and havoc caused at the science lab and at the battlefield. The live transmission of the battle was shown, this punctuated a muted hum of conversation. Whispers and hushed discussions flowed through the air like a digital undercurrent. The recent events in the city, particularly the battle against the rogue AI, ALPHA01, became the hot topics of the day.

On every holographic screen in the school, a live transmission of the ALPHA01 battle played out, drawing the rapt attention of students and teachers alike. The colossal clash between humanity and rogue technology unfolded in vivid details, a stark reminder of the fragility of their digital existence.

Principal J.Williams, a digital projection of authority and calm, materialized on the screens. His words reverberated through the classrooms. "Good morning, students. As you're aware, Neotropolis is currently facing a period of heightened security concerns due to the recent AI uprising. For your safety, we might be considering a temporary closure of the school until the situation is under control. We can't conclude yet but the information will surely be passed across"

A collective gasp rippled through the classrooms as worried glances were exchanged. The possibility of a school closure invoked mixed emotions (And another mixture of Ray's emotions, who can see his dreams coming true). Safety was paramount, but the disruption to their daily routines was unwelcome.

Amidst the uncertainty, one absence stood out. Emma, the enigmatic girl who is the most unnoticed and noticable member of the class, was conspicuously missing from her usual seat. Concerned for their newfound friend, Scott, Ray, and Kate got worried and curious and then decided to pay her a visit after the school day came to an end. Then the normal classes began and other school's routine.

Immediately after school hours, the trio after a long and serious inquiries among their classmates, they finally obtained Emma's address and soon found themselves standing before her home. It was a marvel of contemporary design, with a sleek, minimalist exterior and automated doors that parted silently to grant them entry.

Inside, the trio discovered a house that was a seamless blend of futuristic technology and contemporary comfort. Automated assistants responded to voice commands, adjusting lighting, temperature, and even the ambient music that filled the air. It was a home where the digital and the physical coexisted in perfect harmony.

Their search for Emma led them to a room that seemed like something out of a sci-fi novel(even though it's true). The walls were adorned with virtual reality panels, and at the center of the room stood a state-of-the-art treadmill. Emma was in the midst of a virtual race, her body moving with breathtaking speed and precision, perfectly synchronized with the virtual landscape she traversed.

"Uhhh...Hey, Emma!" Ray called out, attempting to capture her attention amidst the whirlwind of her virtual race.

Emma slowed to a halt, her VR headset retracting to reveal a smile of greeting. "Oh, hey there! Sorry, I was in the middle of a race. What brings you guys here?"

"We just wanted to check on you," Kate explained. "You weren't in school today, and with everything that's happening, we wanted to make sure you're okay."

Emma smiled and nodded appreciatively. "I decided to stay home and catch up on some VR racing. It's a great way to unwind."

"I like her" Ray commented smiling

As they engaged in conversation, a genuine connection began to take root. Emma's intelligence and passion for technology shone brightly, drawing the trio to her in a way that transcended the usual boundaries of friendship.

However, Scott, driven by his innate curiosity, couldn't resist the urge to do his test-for-friendship tradition which he always do but had an exception and that was Ray. With a playful glint in his eye, he said, "Before we become close friends, I have a few questions for you."

"Here it comes" Ray said knowing what is about to happen.

Emma raised an eyebrow, her interest piqued. "Sure...Go ahead, ask away."

What followed was an hour of rigorous intellectual inquiry. Scott posed a barrage of challenging questions that spanned the realms of science, programming, and history. To the trio's amazement, Emma answered each query with effortless precision, her responses revealing a profound depth of knowledge.

As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting long shadows in Emma's futuristic abode, the trio realized that they had not only found a friend in Emma but a kindred spirit who shared their passion for technology and learning. The bond they had forged that day was the beginning of a remarkable friendship.
