"What the hell?" Mia couldn't help but mumble as she stared at the screen.
It seemed like the screen was sentient, which should've been apparent to her from the very beginning, but it didn't for some reason.
The screen—it glitched for quite some time.
Numerous unknown characters popped in the screen before it switched into a language she could understand.
————————————————-
NOTICE:
You have been selected.
You now have the ability to save the world…
Or lead it to its destruction.
————————————————-
"What the hell do you even mean?" Mia looked as confused as ever at that point.
————————————————-
Well, you are chosen to be a knight.
————————————————-
"Uh huh. That doesn't explain anything! What does being chosen as a knight mean for me? And since I'm a knight now, who am I supposed to protect? And how does me being a knight lead to the extinction of this world?" Mia asked.
—————————————————-
You ask a lot of questions.
I don't like it.
—————————————————-
Mia really didn't like how this weird screen was turning all sassy at that point.
But she had to put up with it because that screen was the only thing that could give her the answers that she was looking for.
"Fine. I'll take it slow then. How is me being a knight gonna lead this world into its destruction?" She asked.
—————————————————-
Really? That's the question that you're
gonna ask first?
—————————————————-
"Well, it did seem like the question that needed the answer in my eyes." She shrugged as she said that.
Even though Mia couldn't see it, she could sense the weird screen sighing on the inside.
—————————————————-
Fine. But I'm not going to break the flow
just to answer that question.
You are a knight.
Your job is to protect the one that you
have sworn your allegiance to.
But here's the question.
Who are you going to pledge for?
—————————————————-
Mia pondered over what was written for some time before finally opening her mouth.
"So… Let's see. I guess I can pledge my allegiance to certain people who are important for the safety of this world. And that's how I could save this world. That would also mean that if I chose the wrong person or a person with wrong morals or anything, I could in turn choose the path of destruction." She muttered.
—————————————————-
…
—————————————————-
"Hmm, but I could always break my allegiance with that person tho, right? Then why did you term it like that?" Mia turned towards the screen and asked.
—————————————————-
Well, that's because-
—————————————————-
"Let me guess. Once I pick a certain person, I can't break it. I have to ride or die with that person, right?" She asked.
—————————————————-
What reason do I even exist for?
—————————————————-
It looked as if Mia shattered the screen's pride.
"Aww, don't be like that now! I didn't mean to make you sad or interrupt you or anything, you know?" She tried to salvage the situation at that point.
—————————————————-
Whatever. I'm not gonna help you
whatsoever from now on.
You want info on those certain people
that you talked about?
Fat chance getting it now.
—————————————————-
"Hey! Don't say that now! I'm sorry, okay? I apologize for not letting you do what you were meant to." She cried.
—————————————————-
…
You really mean it?
—————————————————-
"Yes! Yes, I do." She nodded her head vigorously as she realized that the screen might be a pushover.
—————————————————-
Cool. Here are the-
—————————————————-
"Wait right there! I mean, sorry for interrupting and all, but I feel like we're leaving out important information right here. Nah, like a lot of important information." Mia mumbled.
—————————————————-
*sigh*
What do you wanna know about, then?
—————————————————-
"What the hell is going on in this world right now?" She asked the question that she should have asked at the very beginning.
