Chapter 24
I was asked to lead them to my room, and I did, followed by the wedding party, but specially Vik, Eva, and their whole clan...Upon entering, everything from my luggage to my bag was tossed aside, and things were ripped. All this while I saw Vik lazily play with Nat's hair and making out with her without a care or glance at me.
I was dispensable to them; they never tried to clear it out with me; for them I fit the stereotype and they were quick to judge me my so-called best friend/sister and soulmate.
What a joke, I was the actual joke.
"What is the code for the safe," asked the officer in charge...before I could answer..." 1109," Eva said with a vicious snarl...The safe was opened, and Armaan's little gift box with the bracelet and engraving was produced. The officer said it was charged on Mr. Armaan's black card; this was the jewelry they were looking for...I knew where this was going; it was me against Them, all of them including Eva, her parents and Vik.
Hopelessly I looked at Sher, who had anger in his eyes, but he kept quiet..." Armaan gave it to me; he gave me his card and left it with the front desk for me to buy this," I answered frantically...
Before I could do or say something else, A slap echoed and hit my face...I looked at who had slapped me;
I was shocked to see it was Eva, she had caught my hair now, and with gritted teeth, she said, "Why would he do that now, you whore? Tell me....why would my soon-to-be husband give a skank like you his black card to shop".
With disheveled hair, a tear-stained face, and a bleeding lip, I said " This is the one and only time you ever get to touch me; from now on you are dead to me"...."and as for why I have this stuff", I was about to answer....When a voice boomed and silenced everyone...
" BECAUSE HE WANTED TO GIVE YOU A GIFT FOR YOUR WEDDING NIGHT....THAT WOULD BE SPECIAL FOR YOU, AND WHO WOULD KNOW YOU BETTER THAN SOMEONE YOU CLAIM IS LIKE A SISTER TO YOU AND KNOWS YOU BETTER THAN EVEN YOUR OWN MOTHER,"!!!! Armaan yelled as he made his way towards me parting the crowd like Moses parted the red sea.
"Armaan, how come you came back," Eva said in a barely there whisper as she averted her eyes as the reality hit her.
" Sher messaged me and asked me to return, and I'm glad I did." Armaan replied, seething with anger...
" Is that why you sent me away to pick up this package from the port because you thought I gave Amara a present and you wanted to bully and humiliate her?..
Eva: " I know you liked Amara the moment you saw her picture, but you wanted to meet me first when you found out that Amara wasn't Eva;......I was"..."
I said yes to Amara because I had met her on a few occasions at the Local homeless shelter and soup kitchen where I visited on occasion, to make sure my donations were put to good use, and I knew she was a gentle, kind-hearted soul. I met her during her official scholarship interviews and campus work at Yale just as a candidate with a candidate number. That's why I didn't know her name and mistook her for Eva, but thanks for proving me right, You are nothing like her Eva I was wrong about you.....SO FUCKING WRONG"...I just wanted to make sure I wasn't marrying a society Wench like Natasha when I found out Eva was the other girl whom I knew nothing about".
Eva was still reeling in what she had done when Armaan grabbed her elbow and dragged her to the center to the police officer, who was still holding the box in their hand.
He yanked the bracelet out and read loudly:
" Forever yours, you forever mine,
for eternity, even with a wrinkle in Time,".
Amara told me the idea for the engraving because A Wrinkle in Time was your favorite movie, and it's the first movie we saw on our date last Christmas.
This was supposed to be my wedding night present to you; I gave it to Amara for safekeeping because you constantly put stuff in and out of my safe.
"The wedding is off "!!!!!!!! Was the last thing I heard Armaan saying, and I wasn't concerned when Eva sobbed before I walked out of the room while everyone else was busy, Not caring where Vik was either. I slumped on a cabana near the Dock and waited for a ride to the main island...I saw Sher standing behind me, and I knew it was time; I sent a quick text,
" I'm sorry? I give up !" you win!!
I let my Phone fall on the sand, and darkness engulfed me; the last thing I remember was Sher calling out my name and holding me while breaking orders on his phone...I knew who he was talking to, Who was coming.....
........To be continued........
