Chapter 73 - Apocalypse

This chapter is about the back story of Apocalypse. If you know it then you can skip this.

...

In the distant past, around 3600 BC, in the Nile River Basin of Egypt, an unknown light illuminated the countless areas filled with yellow sand. The Pyramids resonated with voices, as if celebrating the imminent triumph of their master.

Meanwhile an assassination plot against the mightiest Mutant was underway, and they were on the verge of achieving half of their success.

The pyramid had a fervent cluster of believers who worshipped their god—Apocalypse. The world's first Mutant possessed unparalleled strength and potential.

"En. Sabah. Nur... En. Sabah. Nur..." Voices chanted, surrounded by fanatics.

A procession moved forward slowly, with countless guards and the four horsemen of Apocalypse riding horses and donning metal masks.

Apocalypse, adorned with a distinctive metal mask, had ruled the world for centuries. He had adopted numerous bodies, earning the admiration and awe of countless humans.

However, despite his method of assimilating other bodies and transferring consciousness, granting him a form of regenerative healing factor, Apocalypse remained vulnerable to the passage of time. Oblivious to the impending threat, two guards exchanged meaningful glances, signaling their readiness to act at the opportune moment.

The unspoken communication conveyed the message: "Find the right time and be prepared to act."

The other guard responded with a knowing look, affirming, "Our people are ready, and we can strike at any moment."

Throughout the centuries when Apocalypse was revered as a god, factions opposing him emerged, hidden and biding their time to deliver a fatal blow.

As he observed a soldier wielding a sharp knife, Apocalypse remained unfazed, watching as the blade cut through the young man lying before him.

Surprisingly, no blood flowed from the incision. Within a second, the wound vanished completely, surpassing even Wolverine's remarkable resilience by an immeasurable degree.

"My master, we tasked you with finding a vessel impervious to death. Only by possessing him can you reign over the world for eternity." Eve gazed respectfully at Apocalypse, the god-like figure, urging everyone to give their utmost for his cause.

"Open his mouth and drip my blood into it. I want to further enhance his power," Apocalypse commanded, employing the molecular manipulation of his body to carefully allow a drop of his blood to fall.

Guided by Apocalypse's manipulation, the resilient Mutant received the droplet of Apocalypse's blood. Only Apocalypse's pupils turned white as the resilience of his body and the power of the X gene surged to their peak.

"Let's commence the ceremony now!" Apocalypse's hoarse voice carried a hint of excitement, as the power of immortality stood just a step away.

"Sleep!" Eve approached a resilient Mutant, gently invoking her Hypnotic Ability. In less than a second, the opponent succumbed to her control.

"Begin the transfer," Eve instructed the white-robed priest, who signaled to commence the ritual.

Around the Pyramids, countless fervent believers worked tirelessly to support the curtain, a method employed by the queen to harness the sun's power for the transfer.

As solar energy entered the Pyramids, a cascade of golden energy flowed through the rune network, converging upon those participating in the ceremony of conversion. The golden holy energy interconnected, initiating the transformation.

Within the Pyramids, Apocalypse's four horsemen and devoted followers prayed fervently.

Empowered by the faith of the masses, Apocalypse and the new body on the conversion table were uplifted by the golden liquid.

Upon contact with Apocalypse, the dark blue soul slowly traversed to the new body, carried by the golden liquid. In a brief span, the new body assumed the same gray hue as Apocalypse's surface. The transformative effect of Apocalypse's blood took hold, and the cells were wholly assimilated.

Beyond the Pyramids, humans prepared to strike at Apocalypse. Sensing the opportune moment, they strategically placed a 2.5-ton stone to exploit the Pyramids' vulnerability, aiming to disrupt the proceedings.

"Go to your death! Let's go! A false god!" One of the soldiers interrupted the support holding the stone, causing a massive boulder to plummet down the river. The tremendous impact obliterated all obstacles in its path.

"Take action, take action! Kill the minions of the false gods and their believers. We cannot let the ceremony be completed!" The soldier beside him roared.

Within the Pyramids, as if responding to a signal, the two soldiers at the door closed the stone gate. Eve sensed an unprecedented crisis, not just from the reverberating vibrations, but also from those taking advantage of the chaos to carry out attacks during Apocalypse's ritual.

"Protect the master and eliminate those traitors," Eve calmly ordered. As the first knight of Apocalypse, he possessed composure and proficiency in all aspects.

"Betrayers." A knight who controlled sound waves unleashed a deadly sonic attack, instantly killing the two traitorous soldiers.

"False-gods die!" Amid the crisis in the Pyramids, five soldiers who had betrayed Apocalypse raised their spears and thrust them towards Apocalypse.

"Go see our God, Apocalypse! Stand by its side." Another Mutant, manipulating flames, sneered as he instantly incinerated the attackers.

"At all costs, protect the master from resurrection. This world can exist without us, but it cannot exist without the master, who can provide refuge for our people."

Eve's resolute gaze issued orders to the other knights, and the collapsing Pyramids triggered a chain reaction.

While the destruction of ordinary buildings might not pose a significant threat to Mutants, the lethality of heavy stones and variations on people should not be underestimated.

Amid the crumbling Pyramids, Eve and his loyal followers prayed fervently.

In the shadows, a soldier who had betrayed Apocalypse lurked quietly. Seeing that Apocalypse had not fully resurrected, he leaped up and raised a dagger, intent on striking the still-reviving Apocalypse.

"It's bad," Eve exclaimed as she observed the assailant who had stabbed Apocalypse. She, too, was a Mutant with energy, reaching the pinnacle of strength after Apocalypse's empowerment.

Eve utilized the energy under her control to crush the attacker directly, hurling them against the wall. However, resolving the immediate threat didn't conclude the matter; the danger persisted.

The chain reaction of the Pyramids' destruction swiftly took hold, and numerous boulders began to crumble.

The four horsemen and sacrificial followers of Apocalypse, intent on resurrecting their god through prayers, found their hopes shattered. Even if they could solve all the issues hindering Apocalypse's resurrection, the collapse of Pyramids extinguished any chance they had.

Countless boulders grew denser, limiting their movement. In the final moments, only one of Apocalypse's four knights remained. Eve exerted herself to the utmost to ensure Apocalypse had a chance to survive.

As Pyramids crumbled entirely, Apocalypse and Eve descended as if weightless.

As Eve fell, she refused to abandon her protective duty over Apocalypse. An invisible energy shield enveloped him, deflecting the rock intended to harm him.

"This is the last time I'll protect you, Master," Eve declared, hurling herself onto the stone. The sound of breaking bones and internal organs bleeding echoed as she sacrificed herself for Apocalypse.

With a resounding impact, the large rock struck Eve, who had no strength left to shield Apocalypse.

The entire Pyramids collapsed.
