Chereads / The Lightning Dragon In Harry Potter / Chapter 112 - Lockhart's Desire

Chapter 112 - Lockhart's Desire

Hogwarts, under the cloak of night, found Filch diligently patrolling the dimly lit corridors with his trusty oil lamp and Mrs. Norris, his ever-faithful feline companion, in tow. Their mission: to catch any mischievous little wizards who dared to wander the halls after hours.

Meanwhile, inside the Room of Requirement on the eighth floor, Luke indulged in a delicious slice of pumpkin pie crafted by the house-elves, all while his wand danced skillfully, etching intricate runes onto a series of rings.

With thirteen spell rings completed thus far—each imbued with practical enchantments like iron armor spells and fainting charms—Luke turned his attention to Hermione, who sat nearby engrossed in her reading.

"Dear, kindly hand over your ring," Luke quipped, casting a playful glance in Hermione's direction.

"What do you plan to do with it?" Hermione inquired, her curiosity piqued as Luke began to carve runes into the ring's interior.

"I'll be enchanting it so you can cast spells without needing your wand," Luke explained, focused on his task.

With the templates of the previous enchantments at his disposal, the process was straightforward for Luke, akin to tracing over existing patterns. However, Hermione, who observed intently, seemed to teeter on the brink of exhaustion, her head bobbing precariously.

Sensing her impending collapse, Luke swiftly set aside his work and gently scooped Hermione up, eliciting a surprised yet grateful expression from her.

"Go ahead and get some rest, I'll take care of the rest," Luke suggested.

"No, I'll stay with you!" Hermione insisted.

Hermione and Luke exchanged refreshed glances, a silent understanding passing between them.

In the end, Hermione relented. "Good night," she bid them.

Luke chuckled and gently placed Hermione on the bed. But as he began to withdraw his hands, Hermione pressed them lightly, surprising him.

She bid him good night with a sweet smile on her face.

"You always have to have the last word," Luke remarked helplessly, watching Hermione.

"Can't help it," Hermione replied, her pale blue eyes meeting his briefly before she shook her head.

....

Luke returned to the sofa by the fire, picking up his wand to continue his task for the night. It was such a beautiful life.

Two in the morning.

With the aid of the firelight, Luke finally completed the last Floating Charm.

He slipped on the ring and tested the spell, nodding in satisfaction at the result.

With current technology, he believed it would cause a stir in the wizarding world.

These rings could be considered a reformation of magical artifacts.

"Time to sleep," Placing the delicate ring beside bed he murmured.

.....

Waking up in a daze, he couldn't help but stretch. As he waved his wand, the flames in the fire seemed to grow a bit brighter.

Later Luke extended his hand wearing the ring and aimed at Scabbers, sleeping in Ronald's arms.

Then, much to the surprise of Fred and the others, Scabbers levitated into the air.

"My Scabbers!" Ronald cried out, reaching for his rat.

"You really don't have a secret wand?" George, not paying much attention to Ronald's distress, turned to Luke with disbelief.

"You can try it too," Luke replied nonchalantly, handing the ring directly to George.

"Give me one too!" Fred exclaimed eagerly, eyeing another delicate ring on Luke's hand.

"I can't give you this one. Try this one; it'll knock you out," Luke said, turning and pulling another ring from his pocket, handing it to Fred.

"Knock out!" Fred pointed the ring at Scabbers, who had just woken up.

Immediately, a pitiful cry sounded as Scabbers fell to the ground.

"Fred!" Ronald protested in dissatisfaction, glaring at his brother.

"Scabbers is my pet; you can't treat him like that!"

But before Ronald could finish, he saw Scabbers, now on the ground, being levitated into the air again by George.

He felt despair. What had his Scabbers done to deserve this?

"You don't even need to chant the spell," Luke reminded, watching the excited Fred and George.

Even Harry seemed eager to try out the new prop.

"Good morning, my students!" came a familiar voice, and Lockhart approached with a smile.

"Professor Lockhart, they're bullying my pets!" Ronald quickly complained.

Fred and George, embarrassed, covered their faces as they watched the scene unfold.

"Alright, alright, put that smelly mouse aside for now," Lockhart said, bypassing Ronald and addressing Luke directly. "I just saw those rings that cast spells."

He leaned in close to Luke's ear and asked in a low voice, "Are you planning to sell these rings?"

"Of course, these are the finished products," Luke replied, understanding Lockhart's implication.

"You give me a set, and Galleons won't be a problem," Lockhart said with a smile, patting Luke on the shoulder. "By the way, can I choose my own set of spells?"
