Chapter 23 - Wingardium Leviosa

After the Potions class, it was time for the Charms class with Professor Flitwick. This class was divided, with Gryffindor and Hufflepuff students in one group, and Slytherin and Ravenclaw students in another.

Luke and Hermione decided to head to the Charms classroom, and when they arrived, they saw it was already bustling with students.

Luke found an empty spot and settled in. Shortly after, Professor Flitwic k, entered the room. He was not only the Charms professor but also a Ravenclaw head of house with goblin ancestry.

Despite his stature, Professor Flitwick had won several dueling championships during his time at Hogwarts, earning him a respected reputation as a spells teacher.

The students displayed great reverence upon seeing Professor Flitwick, as he was known for his amiable character, a sentiment often shared among students of Eagle Academy.

"Alright, everyone, let's settle down a bit," Professor Flitwick urged, taking a seat atop a stack of books so he could see all the young wizards in the room.

He kindly introduced the course, "In our first-year Charms class, we'll be covering spells like the Wingardium Leviosa, Incendio etc."

He continued, "At the end of the term, there will be a test, so please pay close attention."

With that, Professor Flitwick picked up his wand and softly incanted, "Wingardium Leviosa."

To the amazement of the young wizards, a thick book levitated into the air, seemingly defying gravity.

"That's the spell we'll be learning in our next lesson. For now, please open your 'Standard Spells' textbook by Miranda Goshawk," he instructed.

At this moment, Luke, tucked away in a corner of the classroom, discreetly closed his writing wheel eye. He had observed every detail of the magical incantation and even memorized the precise wand movements.

"Let's give it a try," he whispered to himself.

Extending his wand from his robe's wide sleeve, he gently tapped a badge he had placed on the table. Instead of reciting the spell aloud, he mimicked Professor Flitwick's wand movements and gestures.

Under Luke's focused gaze, the bronze badge began to float and sway in the air.

However, this caught the attention of Professor Flitwick, who had been observant of his students. He was surprised because he hadn't heard any incantation or seen any visible movement from Luke's mouth.

A silent spell! In an introductory class! These spells were more challenging to learn than any others Professor Flitwick had taught so far. Poor control of a silent spell could result in the wizard's power spiraling out of control.

Moreover, silent spells were considerably more potent than their incanted counterparts. Therefore, wizards often refrained from reciting spells in life-threatening situations.

Based on what he had just witnessed, the blond-haired boy in the corner had effortlessly controlled his magical power, causing the badge to float without uttering a single word.

"By Merlin's beard, this is exceptionally rare," Professor Flitwick muttered to himself, thoroughly impressed.

But there was one nagging question on his mind: why was such a talented student sorted into Slytherin? He couldn't help but shake his head, thinking it was a missed opportunity for the other houses.

If given the opportunity to teach with care, Professor Flitwick had absolute confidence in his ability to nurture the next dueling champion.

"Maybe I should have a good chat with Snape?" Professor Flitwick mused, finding it hard to believe that this thought had crossed his mind.

The amiable Professor Flitwick couldn't have imagined himself thinking such a thing. But the talent exhibited by Luke already encompassed the kind of wisdom associated with Ravenclaw. Being able to make objects float on their first try with a spell was a sign of extraordinary spell talent.

However, if this talent could be harnessed through silent incantations, there was undoubtedly wisdom involved. The manipulation of spells and precise control required meticulous calculations. Even Professor Flitwick, a master duelist, had taken many years to reach his level of expertise.

At this moment, Luke remained unaware that he had caught the attention of the Ravenclaw head of house.

Luke was currently preparing to practice some other useful spells. The challenge was finding a suitable place to do so as well as a suitable teacher. No one in their right mind would demonstrate a range of dangerous spells in front of a young wizard like him.

"Should I ask Tommy?" Luke mused.

....

As time passed, the class was nearing its end. Luke was getting ready to pack his belongings and return to the dormitory when Malfoy and his two followers blocked his path.

"Is something the matter, my friend?" Luke looked up and inquired.

"Geralt, do you know about Quidditch?" Malfoy wasn't here to pick a fight, and he certainly didn't dare to. He now had two coveted positions in hand and wanted to offer one to Luke.

Ever since Harry Potter had joined the Gryffindor Quidditch team, Malfoy had pulled all the strings to get a connection through his father, who managed the school. After successfully joining the Slytherin Quidditch team, one of their members was set for verification and was about to leave the team. This meant there was a vacant spot, and naturally, Malfoy thought of his good friend.

With Geralt's skills, joining the team would make those Gryffindors seem like amateurs.

As someone who had witnessed Luke's strength firsthand, Malfoy was confident in his decision. He had personally requested his father, the school manager, to consider Luke for the position. Even though Dumbledore was the current headmaster, the Malfoy family still had some influence to sway such minor matters.

"You want me to join Quidditch?" Luke asked, surprised by the proposal.

"Yes, I believe that with your participation, we'll be unbeatable!" Malfoy declared confidently.

"What position is available? Seeker?" Luke inquired after a moment's consideration. Joining a team seemed like a good way to pass the time, and the only position he saw vacant was that of the Seeker.

"No, Seeker is my spot!" Malfoy quickly retorted, seeing Luke about to walk away. "Wait, wait! How about we have a one-on-one match?"

Malfoy was eager for the chance to beat Harry Potter, even just once.

"Alright then, it's a deal," Luke agreed, nodding in response to Malfoy's hopeful gaze.
