As James reached the seventh floor, he found Steve waiting for him in the training room, attacking the punching bag with powerful blows.
With a tremendous amount of force, Steve sent the punching bag flying backwards, dislodging it from the hook it was hanging on.
"Wiping the sweat off his face, Steve asked James, "James, where should we begin?"
"Steve, please guide me through the fundamentals," James responded, acknowledging that he lacked any combat experience in his previous and current life.
"Alright, James, let's start from scratch," Steve said. "The first thing you need to remember is always being aware of your surroundings. Being aware of your surroundings is crucial in a fight."
"Got it, Captain. So, what's the first move?" James inquired.
"The first move I want to show you is the basic jab. It's a quick punch that helps you create some distance between you and your opponent. Extend your lead hand, keeping your elbow slightly bent and make contact with the target. Remember to keep your other hand up to protect your face," Steve advised
"Alright, like this?" James asked while performing the move
"That's right, James. Now, follow up your jab with a cross. This is a power punch, so put your whole body into it. Pivot your back foot, rotate your hips, and throw a straight punch with your rear hand. Aim for the target and snap your punch back to the starting position," Steve continued.
James performed as per the instructions of Steve.
"Perfect, James. Now, let's move on to footwork. It's essential to be light on your feet and be able to quickly move in any direction. Start by bouncing on the balls of your feet, staying light and agile. Shift your weight from one foot to the other as you move around, always ready to react," Steve encouraged.
James followed up as per his instructions trying to correct his form.
"Great job, James. Now, let's practice some defense. One of the basic defensive moves is the duck and roll. When your opponent throws a punch at your head, duck under it and roll your shoulders forward, using your waist and legs for the movement. This helps you evade the punch while staying in a position to counterattack," Steve said
"Like this, Captain?" James asked.
"Exactly, James. You're catching on quickly. Now, let's put it all together. I want you to throw a one-two combination, jab followed by a cross, then move in, duck and roll, and counterattack," Steve praised.
"Alright, Captain. Here goes nothing!" James answered.
Steve was truly stunned by how James's body was able to perform and adapt to anything, according to the given instructions. To Steve, James felt like a natural fighter, with a body perfectly suited for combat. His muscle memory was nearly flawless, and as Steve asked him to perform everything from the beginning, James effortlessly did so, without making any mistakes.
"That was impressive, James! You're doing great. Remember, practice makes perfect, so keep working on your technique and stay disciplined in your training. Now that I have walked you through all the basics, it's time to apply it in the actual fight," Steve suggested.
"Now, control your strength and match it with mine. Don't use any of your abilities, not even your sword. Today, we will focus solely on pure physical combat. Although I will definitely employ my shield and attempt to pressure you in any way possible," Steve ordered.
James nodded in agreement. He possessed exceptional control over his physical strength, a gift from the angel. Regardless of how much his strength increased, he could always control it perfectly. This enabled him to match his strength with Steve's physical prowess.
'I wish the same could be said for my chakra,' James sighed, preparing himself for the fight.
He decided against using the Sensory Ability of his chakra as well, realizing that it would prevent Steve from landing any blows on him and hinder his progress in physical combat.
"Come at me," Steve urged, and James eagerly launched himself at Steve the moment he received the green light.
As the fight began, Steve quickly assessd James's fighting style and adapted his own strategy to counter it. With his highly developed reflexes, he dodged, blocked, and parried James's attacks, making it difficult or him to land a solid hit. Although both were equal in strength, Steve had a vast combat experience as compared to James.
Using his SHIELD, Steve effectively combined offensive and defensive techniques. He quickly calculated the best angles to strike, using the SHIELD to deliver powerful blows and stun James momentarily. He seamlessly transitioned between offensive strikes and defensive maneuvers, keeping himself protected while constantly pressuring James.
James did his best to utilize Steve's teachings in his fight against him. He attempted every possible method to strike Steve, hoping to catch him off guard. However, Steve consistently found a way to deflect James's attacks. As the fight progressed, James adapted to Steve's fighting style and attempted various combinations. With each skirmish, James made more progress.
Throughout the fight, James remained focused, maintaining a clear mindset as he analyzed Steve's every move. He searched for patterns and weaknesses, exploiting them to gain an advantage.
Ultimately, they had to end the fight because Steve could no longer keep up with James's stamina.
"I wish we had soldiers like you in the past. I have never seen anyone with such monstrous talent, except for you. Your capacity for learning is exceptional," Steve commented, panting as he sat on the floor, attempting to catch his breath.
James smiled at the praise and handed him a water bottle.
"Thanks, Steve," he said with sincerity.
"It's the least I can do," Steve replied, after taking a sip of water.
improve the grammar.
"So how many days are you going to stay here?" James asked.
"Enough days to train you and after that I will go see an...old friend," Steve said.
"Hmm," James lightly responded.
"By the way, Happy Birthday," Steve smiled. "I meant to wish you earlier, but decided to wait for you to get yourself together," He continued while hinting towards the letter from earlier.
"Thanks," James smiled.
