Chapter 40 - 40. Extermination Complete

'His reaction time improved!' Unglus exclaimed inwardly, turning to glance at Tristan's figure. A kick landed uninterrupted on his face, sending him flying towards where he came.

A powerful explosion unfolded on that side of town as Unglus's shooting figure made short work of those aged buildings. Nonetheless, a heavy atmosphere quickly landed on the area.

Tristan felt that strange pressure and wondered if he was up for that fight. His body remained in a frenzied mode— allowing for quicker reflexes.

Even at that, he decided to make a run for it and did just as he desired. His legs blurred as he sprinted in a certain direction.

Mark had shown him the town's exit, as such, he could navigate his way through those streets.

He ignored all other details apart from the whooshing winds around him. His steps were rapid, and his movement created bursts of violent winds.

Tristan clicked his tongue when the feeling he now associated with danger rose in his chest.

He continued to map out his various abilities, now that his situation could potentially lead to his death.

Tristan abruptly halted his steps, and the rest of the street before him saw a thick wall of earth violently emerging from it—sending bits of rocks into the air, and creating a cloud of dust.

Tristan turned, only to find that Unglus was quick on his chase.

Quickly evaluating his environment, he bolted. Unfortunately, spikes traveled through the ground to encounter him in an instant.

He had been too. slow.

Those rocks shattered violently, giving birth to a small explosion—one that managed to send Tristan flying.

His figure crashed into a building and he spat blood.

Rising to his feet, Tristan felt anger bubble in his chest, but he couldn't exactly act it out recklessly.

He couldn't utilize Kaos, leaving him at a great disadvantage. His opponent on the other hand displayed his mastery over his abilities.

"Annoying." He hissed, dashing out of the building according to the leading of his instincts.

Right after his figure sped out of the damaged structure a boulder slammed into it, resulting in the entire structure's collapse.

Tristan did not stop running however, his eyes quickly inspected the world before him and potential escape routes appeared in his mind.

'I can either go through the alley or speed up the walls of that building. Or maybe run along this street until a turning appears.'

Calculations appeared in his mind, and he picked one of his options.

He pressed forward, arriving inside the dark alley and speeding through it. The ground continued to tremble behind him as Unglus closed the distance.

Worry appeared in Tristan's mind but he shook it off momentarily to focus on his next move.

The chase continued for entire minutes, and Tristan had been unable to even run in the direction of the town's exit. He stood somewhat close to it, but Unnglus knew when to stop him now and then.

Despite his superior physical strength and control over Earth, Unglus seemed to be holding back. His attacks were mostly in one's, as though he was conservative.

Mark had mentioned the 'Kaos pool' at some point and had properly explained, It was simple. One's Kaos pool was the amount of Koas their spirit could contain.

If Inheritors ran out of Kaos, not only would their physical strength diminish, but a sudden fatigue would hit them, rendering them nigh useless in a fight.

It was for this reason most inheritors opted for utilizing weapons rather than discharging their Kaos in a magical effect.

"I should be able to use this to my advantage," Tristan muttered. He weaved through buildings as the giant figure of the enforcer directly tore through those structures if needed. The fashion of that chase being similar to a rat and mouse chase.

Tristan wondered why the man had not caught up to him yet, and honestly, his worry intensified.

Tired of running, he came to a halt right after scaling a building's walls to arrive on its roof.

"What are you planning?" Asked Tristan the moment Unglus arrived below the building. To his horror, he watched a grin bloom on the man's face.

"It's not for you to know."

Tristan could not but reveal a deep frown, when realization dawned on him.

They had been running around for a bit over ten minutes now, and by this point, they had strayed into Shej's abandoned areas—Far away from where the supposed killings were happening.

"Oh-oh. You've come to realize my intentions that quickly? You're smart," Unglus voiced a mocking chuckle seeing Tristan's eyes widen in shock.

The enforcer knew things were about to get serious so he wielded his axes and entered a stance. His face still buzzed from Tristan's kick earlier. Only slightly, though.

"You bastards." Lowering his gaze feeling played, Tristan's voice rang out. His tone was that of a whisper. He made Unglus shudder silently.

"There's nothing you can do-" Unglus's ridiculing words were cut short by the sound of Tristan's acceleration shattering the roof he stood on.

The man sucked in his breath and crossed his axe heads in front of him.

The instant he did this he felt a mighty force land on his heavy blades and the ground shattered to give way to that power.

Tristan had moved so quickly that Unglus had to focus to actually follow the boy's movement. For an enforcer like him who neared the peak of his inheritance, that feat remained spectacular.

"Did you get stronger?" Unglus joked even if he swung his axes with the intent to kill.

Tristan vanished from the path of those blades as sheer force and sharpness traveled through the air to deliver a cross-shaped slash that traveled for meters.

Unglus's eyes darted in several directions. Tristan's agility seemed to have also increased, even if the expert understood that the boy was simply pushing his body to its limits.

Unglus took a step to the side and Tristan's arm tore through the air in an attempt to deliver a blow.

"Gotcha!" The expert exclaimed, letting go of his right axe to grab hold of his opponent's arm before he could withdraw it.

Swinging him like a doll to shatter his ability to react, Unglus also let go of his left axe to slam his fist into Tristan's gut.

That blow would have torn through a normal person's belly.

Still, he refused to go. The others had reported that the extermination was completed. Now he had to capture the boy and bring him with their party.

With horrifying crunching sounds, Unglus delivered blows to Tristan's chest, abdomen, and face. He repeated the sequence whilst keeping a vice-like grip on the boy's arm.

At some point, the strength in his grip crushed the boy's arm.

When his treatment reached a satisfying juncture, he placed Tristan's bloodied and unconscious figure on his shoulder, strapping his axes to his back.

Leaping across the town, he arrived at its exit, where his remaining men had gathered; awaiting his return.

The group had brought a couple black vans—Unglus chose one. He held onto Tristan even while crossing its rear entrance to sit inside.

Thanks to the wounds he had inflicted, he believed that even when the boy arose, he would be too weak to do anything substantial.

Or so he thought.

Unglus had to beat Tristan to a stupor multiple times during the journey, forcing the young man to remain unconscious all through.

Amazingly, however, his injuries healed up perfectly every time.
