I still couldn't believe that I had been chosen. The government had been watching us. They selected a select few of us to become these so-called "War-Knights". None of us expected this. Barely any of us even knew that we were on the brink of war.
After we were briefed, they dismissed us early. I guess they wanted to give me some time to mentally prepare. I couldn't tell Bleed about it or make up an excuse, since I knew he would become suspicious. I hoped he'd think I was still on some kind of "break".
The next day.
"Hey, Hiro. Are you doing ok?"
Natsumi said as I settled in my desk.
"Just waiting for whatever is going to happen."
I responded.
"We're in this together, okay?"
Natsumi said in a worry-free tone.
Everyone who had been chosen sat in their respective seats. Natsumi, Haruna, Akito, Yuzu, Kenji and Hachiro. It was eerily quiet.
All of a sudden, six men in suits entered the classroom. We were stunned but knew what they were here for.
"Greetings, cadets. We will bring you to the headquarters now. We cover your eyes, as we are bringing you to a secret facility that only authorized personnel have access to. Please understand."
Said one of the men.
We didn't have a choice. So we had to oblige.
The men started coming up to us and blindfolding us. The others had scared faces as they were blindfolded. I didn't budge.
After, they guided us and made us walk outside the school. I could hear vehicles running, and they sat us down and strapped us in one of them. It was like a movie.
It was a rocky ride, with many up and downs. Everybody was quiet. I'm sure some of us went to sleep.
After what felt like a two-hour ride, the vehicle finally stopped. We had arrived.
"We are here, cadets. We will be removing your blindfolds."
One of the men said.
They proceeded to remove the blindfolds. We were greeted by a huge building. It was a very modern-looking building, with big glass windows. The entrance had a big metal gate. It featured the insignia of the Japanese Self-Defense Force. As we walked inside, people wearing military outfits greeted us. "Welcome cadets." they said.
"This is a pretty impressive building."
Said Haruna in awe.
"I've heard that the military uses much of their funds in their facilities"
Said Akito.
The government was trying hard to hide this facility. I wonder what they were hiding here.
"Hello! Come on in! My name is Reiko. I am tasked with guiding all of you around. Come in, you're all just in time for our meeting!"
A woman named Reiko called herself our "guide". She wore a military outfit. She didn't seem as serious as other of the people who worked here.
We followed her inside the huge building. I was flustered by what I saw inside. There a bunch of people standing around. Around 40. They all looked our age and seemed to be wearing their own respective school uniforms. I guess we were the last ones to arrive.
"Don't worry, all these people are also new cadets. Make sure to get along with them!"
Said Reiko before leaving us with the crowd.
Natsumi and I looked at each other anxiously. We had been brought to an unknown place, with unknown people who we were going to train, and live, with for some time. I guess we had no choice but to introduce ourselves. This was the start of our long journey ahead of us…
