Chapter 2 - Chapter 2

'God… my head is killing me' Gabriel groaned and buried his head into his pillow, a few straws poking through the fabric and scratching his cheek.

"My lord… how are you feeling?" A concerned voice called out tentatively, causing him to groan again and pull the wool blanket over his head.

His mind was still reeling, sorting through memories and information that belonged to him but also… didn't. He was Gabriel, a strategy loving gamer born in California. A nerdy guy who didn't really have a direction in life. But he was also Lord Gabriel. A good natured man who was the current leader of humanity in the Lands of Ruin.

That damnable voice, the narrator from Age of Ruin, had done something to him. Forcibly filling his head with almost two decades of memories. The strain was enough to make him scream until his vocal chords gave out. Luckily he blacked out before his brain melted into slush or his heart gave out.

He was just starting to get a grasp on the new information before the voice spoke up again. "My lord, scouts have reported that Gorlag is on the move. His army will be here in 3 days…." Gabriel peeked out from the covers and cursed as the sunlight momentarily blinded him. Standing beside the bed was an older gentleman in dark blue robes, his advisor Edwin.

Gabriel mulled over his words. The name Gorlag was familiar and his eyes widened in recognition. Lord Gabriel's memories remembered Gorlag as a particularly vicious goblinoid that led a tribe to the east of Hope's Bastion, the town they were currently in and the last settlement remaining to humanity.

Humanity had been pushed to the brink by the other races. Losing their starting territory and being left with one last forlorn province. The territory was so worthless that most of humanity's rivals couldn't be bothered to fight for it, instead warring amongst each other.

It was only the Goblins that bordered them who deemed humanity enough of an eyesore. They viciously burned the remaining towns and cities, marching to end humanity and consolidate their borders.

The goblins were another underdog race but unlike humanity they had a redeeming advantage that wasn't totally useless.

Numbers.

Goblins reproduced at a frightening rate. Sure humans also had high birthrates compared to stronger races but goblins took that trait to the extreme.

Humanity called them the green tide for that reason alone.

Gabriel also remembered the name Gorlag from his memories of playing Age of Ruin.

He was the first major obstacle Humanity players had to deal with when starting a campaign. He wasn't that big of a deal if the player was smart with their army composition and rushed Gorlag before he could recruit too many units.

Gabriel narrowed his eyes as he took in the current situation. Humanity only had one measly settlement left and less than a thousand soldiers to its name.

How was he going to deal with this nightmare scenario?
