Chapter 1 - THE POOJA

AHANA

"Are you ready yet, Ana?" my youngest sister, Rajvi calls out from downstairs. I, who was in middle of putting my eyeliner and blush on, completes it in a hurry and answers back, "Haan haan, be there in a few"

"Hurry up, Ma's getting angry now"

"Yes yes just let me wear my sandals"

I hurry downstairs and join my sisters who were rushing out of the house holding their long kurtis up with their hands as they ran out of the door, leaving me to lock the house before entering the already waiting car.

"You all look beautiful" my dad tells us.

"Thank you, papa" I say.

"Well well we all know i look the prettiest, don't I papa?" Rajvi says smiling at Arya, the middle sister, who mimics her.

"To be honest your mother looks the prettiest today" Dad says looking at Ma and smiling.

"Ishh, shut up and drive, we'll get late" my mother says blushing and smiling.

I smile to myself, "Absolutely agree, Papa, Ma looks the prettiest of us all today."

Both Rajvi and Arya nod their heads in agreement. I open the camera of my phone to check if I got my makeup right in hurry, and not going to lie I did a good job. The nude pink lipstick went just perfect with the dark pink kurti I wore. And surprisingly I had got my eyeliner well and the blush looked cute.

We were headed to the Malhotra's house, Mr. Arman Malhotra who was my father's bestfriend also my father-in-law to be soon. They have been friends since childhood and never parted their ways, worked hard together, struggled together, build their wealth together, now they wanted their oldest kids to marry, that is me and Ekansh. I haven't seen him for almost 5 years now, but our parents had fixed out marriage ever since we were in our teenage.

Within sometime we enter the Malhotra's Villa, the watchman smiles at us as he opens the gates for us, we were already pretty late because of me and I saw other guests walking inside. We were greeted by Malini aunty and Arman uncle just as we entered the house. They were holding a pooja for their housewarming party.

"Bade jaldi aagae, mahraj" Arman uncle said sarcastically to my father.

"Ye ladkiyo ne ready hone me time hi itna laga dia, isme me kya karu?" my father said shrugging.

("You came too early" Arman uncle said sarcastically to my father.

"What can I do? These ladies took too long to get ready" my father said shrugging.)

"Ahaa, it's alright, we're used to you coming late now" Uncle said as he took my father in for a hug.

Aunty and mother began chit chatting instantly. I took the opportunity and took blessings of both Uncle and Aunty.

"Arey, don't do that, you know you always have our blessings" Malini aunty sais as I bend down to touch her feet for blessing.

"Yes sweetheart, you always have our blessings" Uncle says hugging me too.

Uncle and Aunty has always been like parents to me, and I'm close to them as well, ever since childhood. Arman uncle has always bought me treats when my father won't saying I'll get sick and Aunty has always been there to protect me from my mother's scoldings.

Marrying Ekansh does have advantages after all, I'll be marrying into my other family. The only problem is that even when Ekansh was here in India, he bullied me and hated me and now it's been over 5 years and I'm certain he hasn't started liking me, we barely even talk. Only occasionally when our parents force us to. Or to wish him on festivals and birthday.

"Well, Ahana beta, I've got some good news for you" Arman uncle says, leading me and everyone to the living room.
