Chapter 2 - Not my world

"Where the fuck am I?" Leo groggily woke up with a pounding headache, deep within what appeared to be a concealed chamber beneath the floorboards.

The space wasn't completely dark, as fragments of light seeped through the wooden ceiling above him.

"Was I kidnapped?" Leo contemplated silently, aware of the numerous enemies he'd made over time—people with no qualms with resorting to violence, kidnapping, and even murder.

He looked all over himself, inspecting his body for injuries, only to be met with a startling revelation as a gasp escaped his lips, "This- This isn't me..."

Staring at his tiny, blood-stained hands left him in a daze, struggling to recollect the events that had led him to this moment of realization "The crash-"

"Calm down! Leo... Calm the fuck down!" He consoled himself trying to make sense of the situation he was in, "The last thing I remember was my car's brake falling and me colliding with an oncoming truck."

"Does that mean I am dead?" Leo shook his head, seeing that he could still breathe and feel things just fine, "If I am not dead, then I should be in a hospital not in this weird-ass place, and even if I was, I am a hundred percent certain, that we have no technology that can revive someone and again, let alone turn them younger or have the dead take over someone else's body."

"Let's analyze the situation first!" Leo tried to keep a cool head as he stared back at his bloodied hands, as he checked all over his body to see if he was hurt but other than a few minor scratches here and there he couldn't find a single source of where the blood could've come from.

"This isn't mine..."

With a sigh of relief, he stood up and began checking his surroundings, and other than what could be considered as some rations, there wasn't anything special about the place, "If I want to know what's going on, I have to get out of this place first."

Stacking up several sacks of grains on top of each other, Leo pushed through the door finally reaching the floor above.

"Hey! Is anyone her-" His words caught in his throat as he confronted the nightmarish scene in front of him.

Every inch of the walls was smeared with dried blood, and lifeless bodies littered every nook and cranny of the room.

The blood was nearly all dried up, indicating that these people had been dead for quite some time now.

The smell alone of the corpse that was beginning to decompose was making him feel nauseated.

"I have seen dead bodies before but what the fuck is this?" Leo hurriedly rushed out the door in a panic and kept running until he couldn't.

His breath was ragged despite the short distance he'd covered, "I need to get a phone and contact the police."

Leo scanned his surrounding trying to find even the slightest sign of life but to his horror, he encountered something much worse.

"This... Where am I?" Leo collapsed to the ground, his eyes darting wildly as he took in the desolate expanse. The village appeared utterly abandoned, save for the deceased strewn across the area., "It's as if the entire village was slaughtered overnight."

Surrounded by old-styled wooden houses, with the sun setting, Leo lay in shock not able to think or even move a part of his body.

Breathing became a chore as his sight began going blurry.

The lifeless street bore testimony to the horror—children, women, the elderly, the young—all dead. Some had clearly met worse fates than others, yet none remained alive.

Leo couldn't help but puke all over, as the sight in front of him was more horrifying than anything he had ever seen.

Sure he had seen the worst of the worst type of people, in fact, he had lived among them. However, he hadn't seen anything that came even close to this.

Most houses still stood intact while some were burned to ashes. But the thing that was drawing the most attention was the moon or two moons to be exact.

"I need to know what the fuck is going on here." Leo tried motivating himself to get a hold of himself, despite his emotions betraying him as he tried standing up but his legs gave out on him, "Dammit! If I stay here too long I'll end up just like them."

Even with the overwhelming feeling of fear, Leo mustered up the courage to stand up in spite of his legs wobbling all over the place, "I need to head back. I need to know about myself... and most importantly, the night is about to set."

"I am more safe inside, than being out here." Leo who couldn't make the head or tails of his situation, tried to think as rationally as he could at the moment.

Steeling himself, Leo walked back over to the house. Breathing heavily for a few minutes trying to gain his lost composure, he glanced at the dead bodies that surrounded him inside the house.

"I guess, I'll check some things out before night falls."

Leo walked around as he observed the dead bodies one by one trying to wrap his head around what must've happened to them.

"Looking at their uniform, most of the women seem to be maids and the men similarly look like ordinary house servants, all aside from his one," Leo turned his head to look at the old man who was particularly dressed well, "Is he a butler or something of the sort, perhaps?"

Walking over to the old man who was laying on the corner, he noted the similarity of the wound with the rest of the group, a lengthy gash spanning from his chest to the abdomen

But unlike the rest, the man was well built despite his age and clearly had sustained more injuries than anyone else. There were several burn marks on his body and clothes and even smaller blade wounds all over his back.

"If I was to make raw assumptions, it seems they are my servants who died protecting me from whoever slaughtered the village." Leo summarized, "I hadn't noticed this before but my clothes are clearly better and a higher quality than what everyone else was wearing, even including the villagers outside."

"Second, I was the only one unharmed meaning the blood on my hands belonged to someone in this room, and last but not least I was the only one hidden." Leo massaged his temple, "I am clearly someone of importance for these people to die for me so willingly, after all, even bought loyalty as employees can only go so far."

"Though, if I am someone that important what in the hell, am I doing in a place like this." Leo bit his lips under frustration as the more questions he tried to solve the more they appeared, "I need to take it one at a time."

"But at least I can be sure of one thing." Leo sighed heavily,

"Whether it's a good thing or not, this place is clearly not my world."
