Chapter 3 - CHAPTER TWO

She was in the kitchen the next morning when he entered.

He appeared to have little to no sleep. She attempted to grin.

"Good sleep?"

Despite not having, he nodded. She had cooked him toast and given him coffee while he was still perplexed. He tried to figure out what she was doing while he sat and ate his breakfast. She stopped him as he was about to walk out the door after getting ready for work.

Hey Jack. Keep the family credit card at home.

He gave her a glance. She grinned.

"I'm getting a car."

Years prior, he had assured her that she didn't require a vehicle since he would take her wherever she desired to go. He paused and turned to face her.

"A car?"

She bowed.

"Not a brand new one, just something to run around town in."

She stopped.

Unless you think I ought to call Michael and inquire about the feasibility of the plan?

He groaned. It had begun. She intended to bleed him to death.

He pulled the card out, placed it on the sideboard, and then started working.

She decided it would be the last time she did that, dressed, and took a taxi into town. After two hours, she had decided. She hadn't gone overboard; her money was also at stake. However, she had spent a little under $5,000 on a 2005 Mazda MX-5.

Although it was almost twelve years old, her son Daniel's mechanic friend had met her and looked it over. She had his word that it was a fantastic car, well worth the money, and had no visible issues from what he could discern.

"Mrs. John, that car is cool." She gave him a smile.

"Amelia, politely."

She noticed she was flirting with the young man as she turned to face him. She remarked, "He's the same age as your son!" She felt her cheeks get red, and she quickly turned away.

She had another thought when she was signing the documents. She was aware that the fact that it was a two-seater and convertible would enrage her husband, which was an added benefit.

While they were getting her automobile ready, she organized her insurance and called an old acquaintance to pass the time.

Surprised to hear from her, Sofia. Since they hadn't spoken much in the past year or so, Amelia's request to meet for lunch caught her off guard.

She ran into her friend in the city, and after they had hugged and had drinks, they sat at a table and perused the menu. Sofia informed her that she was delighted to hear from her since she simply couldn't hold out any longer. After offering her an apology, Amelia described how Jack had taken control of her life by gradually gaining influence over her.

Sofia was not surprised by this; she and many of her other friends had observed it and had made attempts to stop it, but Amelia had missed all of their cues, so eventually they quit up.

Amelia acknowledged that she ought to have listened to others and exercised greater awareness, but circumstances had changed. She shared her weekend with Olivia and everything she had learned about Jack with Sofia.

He brought her to your house. Sofia enquired.

Sofia found it hard to believe. She also couldn't believe she hadn't expelled him.

When she was prepared for him to leave, Amelia grinned and said that he would be leaving. Sofia questioned her regarding her meaning.

"I wish I had the self-assurance to show him exactly what he had thrown away."

The question "What do you mean?" Sofia enquired.

"Well. This wasn't, in my opinion, his only affair. Since I can recall, neither of us have had any sexual relations. Sofia paid attention to her buddy and realized that she wanted and needed a makeover, as well as some new clothing. She pondered.

After finishing their coffee, they went shopping with Sofia's direction. Amelia completely trusted her buddy as she helped her try on clothing that she had never considered. And since she had access to the family credit card, she didn't have to worry about the price. By the time she sat down in the salon chair, she had already spent more on clothing and footwear in one day than she had during the previous five years combined.

She halted as they were leaving the salon and kept staring at her image in the mirror. She appeared quite different. She looked at a shoulder-length tapered hairdo that made her look much younger in place of her long, thick, and wavy hair.

At her, Sofia grinned.

You won't be recognized by him, Amelia. To get her automobile, they moved in the direction of the garage.

Sofia was driven home by Amelia. She had the top down, the sun was shining, and it was enjoyable to cruise with her sun hat pushed firmly to her head. She felt younger as well as looking younger.

Her automobile was parked in the drive when he got home from work. He frowned, asking, "A convertible?" He entered the house unsure of what to expect, and once more, she shocked him. A mouthwatering aroma was coming from the kitchen, which he could smell. She was seated at the table when he wandered in. She gave him a head-up.

He almost didn't recognize her when he glanced at her.

The question, "Your hair?"

She nuzzled it with her fingers while grinning.

"Yeah. How about it?

He did and really enjoyed it. She was gorgeous, by God.

"Dinner will be served in ten minutes."

He sat down next to her since he could no longer stand it.

"What are you doing, Amelia?"

She gave him a blank expression as if she didn't understand what he was saying.

He spread his arms widely.

All of this! You learn that I betrayed you. You get a car and get your hair done. You're still making me dinner and you haven't kicked me out?

She gave him a glance.

"I also purchased some new clothing."

He took a look around.

So why don't I stay in a hotel?

She fixed her gaze on him. "Would you prefer to stay in a hotel?" It was her.

He appeared even more perplexed.

"Hear me, Jack. You will go only when I say you must, never earlier. I'm still debating whether or not to notify Michael. Therefore, you will stay here to sleep until I make a decision.

He fixed her with his gaze. He looked at her as his rage increased.

"What? What do you think of yourself?

She gave him a glare.

"Me? I believe I am you. You have been watching and directing my every action for years. My buddies were all chased away by you, leaving me with just you.

You forbade me from driving in case I got into a new relationship or, god forbid, decided to have fun and leave the house. Please let me know if you don't like it now, and I'll call Michael.

He fixed her with his gaze. He could not speak. He was just where she wanted him to be. He wouldn't accept it. He got to his feet and looked at her.

"Screw this! Tonight, I'm going. You're insane. He screamed.

He stomped upstairs after storming out of the kitchen. He was putting some clothes into a case while grumbling in his room. She was standing at the door when he closed the case and noticed her. He fixed her with his gaze.

"Amelia, what changed you? Not you, this. You are not this way.

She fiddled with her phone while gazing out the window.

"Unfortunately, I've changed. What then changed? I did.

I was made to do this by you. All I wanted, Jack, was your love. And at the beginning, you did love me, but you couldn't just leave it at that, could you?

Knowing that staying would be pointless, he got up and went to his room.
