She swung her arms across the bed only for her hand to stumble to an empty, cold pillow. She let her fingers wander further, touching the space beside her, but no one was there.
She could only guess that her husband had not returned yet, simply judging the linen's lack of warmth and signs of creases.
"Where could he be?" Suddenly, she could not help but feel worried as her eyes widened as she tried to see in the dim lights.
All indications of sleep left her body as she scrambled out of bed and onto her feet. Then, she remembered her phone on the other side of the bedside table.
Quickly, she crawled back in bed to reach it. Checking the screen, she scrolled for any calls or text messages, but nothing came from her husband.
"No... Stop it!" Jules mumbled as fear crept into her mind. "Please, not again." She pleaded, recalling how horrifying it was to find her child almost lifeless.
