"Damn!" He should have known better than to trust another person's intel.
He was usually thorough about every decision he made, especially if there was another life involved. But in this situation, he had let his guard down.
He took another man's word, or in this case, a woman, without double-checking the facts. Then, he used it to judge another person.
"Sir Hawkins, I believe they intentionally falsified the first report to fool you." The new detective informed him of what he had learned with his investigation.
Before going home, he received a last-minute meeting. The man immediately briefed him with the new information he had gathered in his search for the truth.
"And you are positive...?" He read the name of the person who hired the previous investigator, confirming what he already suspected in the first place.
