"What else did you find out?" Damon asked the person on the other line as he sat on his desk, looking out the darkening sky outside his massive window.
He was bound to leave soon as he glanced at the time. He used to work late at the office. He was often the last to leave the office, wanting to finish as much work before going home.
Truthfully, he did not have a reason to go home early to an empty house. It was deafening to hear the echoes of his footsteps in the barren hallway or the silence as he lay alone on his bed while he waited for sleep to take him.
"Mrs. Hawkins... I mean. Mrs. Jules had just arrived at the house, Sir." The man he assigned to follow his wife informed him, slightly modifying how he referred to his wife.
He had explicitly instructed his men not to refer to his wife as Mrs. Hawkins since that name already identified with his mother. He did not like the confusion.
