Chapter 13 - CHAPTER 13

"Good, I think you have the basics down."

Ken told the girl, as she had a happy face. They had been meeting in the card shop for over a few days now, and he can safely say that this girl is better than most of her peers now.

Patting the cute girl's head, with her blushing in embarrassment, he looked at the board once more before nodding to himself.

His LP was super low even with using a structure deck, with her bringing out the potential of the Lightsworns well. She had a knack of using her resources well, especially on how to use her GY.

These plays were good for her level since people were stupid to think that the GY was a thing to be avoided; most players didn't like milling their decks, which was why Lightsworns were hated by the community.

Fools, milling cards using tools from the ban list on specific decks was and is still OP. Plebs just can't play the damn game properly.

From what she said, she was fighting against her friends the next day, so he still had some time to scour for the things that he tried to find. They were a bitch to get, honestly, but with friends in high place (*Cough* Pegasus *Cough*), he managed to get them with a fee, of course.

Bugger is such a cheapskate. He earned billions a month yet still asked for a fee for a few uncommon cards. Well, he had money to spend after all, and with his bank quite full in his opinion, he might as well splurge once in a while on something he finds interesting.

"Here, kid, these cards will make your resource management easier."

Handing her a few cards and explaining the purpose of said cards, he said his goodbyes after she repeatedly thanked him.

He waved it off and told her that he had an intent of watching her duel her friends, to which the girl answered his unspoken questions, telling him about their meetup location and time.

"Goodbye, Mister! And thank you so much! I'll see you tomorrow!"

Ah kids, they have a place in his heart; they are so cute and innocent. And she called him "Mister" too; that warms his heart as people keep calling him a Missus instead; he was a guy, dammit. He even cut his hair short; how do people still mistake him for a girl?

It turns out they were going to fight in the Virtual Nexus; people call it VN for short. He got a friend request on his alternate account that was purely for testing out decks; he gave his username to the kid on a note along with the cards, so she must have added him.

Her username was really direct; Tomoe_Rei must be her real name or something.

Anyways, his in-game avatar in his alternate account was simple. A simple white t-shirt and jeans, with black sneakers and a hat to complete the look. Honestly speaking, hats were kind of his thing at this point, and even in a virtual game, the physics were so good that he could feel the intense heat of the sun. The hat covers his face from the sun, so he killed two birds with one stone.

Rei, he'll call her that now that he had a name to the face, and her friend group were going to duel one another in the open at one of the public parks for walk-in duels. This place was for casual people to learn and try out new cards in their deck; he uses it a lot too.

Finding her alongside a few people, he simply stood back and watched from a distance as the girls talked to each other. While he waited, though, he thought back to the archetype. Lightsworns were normal-effect monsters, but their main monsters were Synchros.

Raiden, Hand of the Lightsworn, was a tuner effect monster that he remembered clearly, but here in this world it was just an effect monster. So that begs the question: are there more Synchro monsters? Maybe even XYZ, and god forbid, Pendulums that are acting as normal monsters?

He'd have to do more research about this.

His new friend's eyes met his, and he gave a wave. She returned with a smile before she and a friend that had short blond hair raised their Duel Disks. A second later...

""DUEL!""

"Alright, Rei! Get ready to see my cute monsters! I play 1st Movement Solo! If I don't control any monsters, I can special summon one level four or lower Melodious monster from my hand or deck! I choose Sonata, the Melodious Diva (1200/1000) from my hand! Her effect activates when I special summon her; all Fairy type monsters I control gain 500 ATK and DEF!"

Oh, Melodious. Usually girls tend to go for decks like Angels or Amazoness; well, Melodious is actually a new deck that just released a week or two ago.

Surprised that she even got enough for a deck so fast.

"Cute, isn't she? I'll set a card faced-down before ending my turn!"

Didn't normal summon? Ah, she has that card. Hopefully Rei would see the cards related to the archetype before going to battle phase.

Giving the turn to Rei, she looked at her hand after she drew before smiling.

"Let's do this, Ai! I use Charge of the Light Brigade to send the top 3 cards from my deck to my graveyard! I can take a level 4 or lower Lightsworn card from my deck and add it to my hand. I choose Minerva, Lightsworn Maiden."

Using the card, the hologram of a white wolf with golden fur ran towards Ai before shattering into pieces, with three cards from the top of Rei's deck automatically moving to her graveyard.

"Eh, Rei, why are you sending cards into the graveyard? You can't get them back!"

Ai looked with a startled expression as Rei smirked, adding the card that she wants to her hand.

"You haven't seen anything yet! Wulf, Lightsworn Beast's effect activates! When he is sent from the deck to the grave, I can special summon him! I place Wulf (2100/300) in Attack Position!"

A werewolf-like beast materialized into the field, giving a low growl as he flexed his golden claws towards Ai.

"I then play the spell card, Solar Recharge! I can discard a Lightsworn monster and draw two, then send the top 2 cards from my deck to the grave. I discard Minerva, Lightsworn Maiden! And when she goes to the grave from the hand or deck, I can send another top card to the grave."

Drawing the two cards and looking at the cards in her grave, she thinks for a moment before taking a card from her hand.

"I now normal summon Raiden, Hand of the Lightsworn (1700/1000) in Attack Position and use his effect. During the main phase, I can send 2 cards from the top of my deck to the grave and gain 200 ATK if one of the cards were a Lightsworn monster. It was, so plus 200 ATK."

The Hand of the Lightsworn materialized on the field, and Rei went on the offensive.

"Battle! I attack Sonata (1700/1000) with Raiden (1900/1000)!"

Raiden brandishes his large sword before rushing towards Sonata, with it raised skyward, ready to cleave the mermaid.

"Not so fast, I activate Score's effect during battle calculation from my hand! If a melodious monster I control battles a monster, I can send this card to the graveyard, and now your Raiden's ATK and DEF drop to 0 until the end of the turn!"

Placing the card to the graveyard, the numbers next to Raiden started dropping until it reached 0 on both stats, causing Raiden to stop the assault.

"Darn it, go Wulf, attack!"

"Too bad, Rei, I use my face-down card! The trap card, Scrap-Tron Scarecrow, activates! When your monster declares an attack, I can target it and negate the attack! And after that, I can set this card face-down instead of sending it to the graveyard!"

Rei groans before setting a card faced-down.

"Sigh... I end my turn then, Ai."

Drawing for turn, Ai smiled at the drawn card.

"OK, my turn! Because I have a Melodious monster, I can special summon Canon the Melodious Diva (1400/2000) onto the field in face-up defense!

I can't really do anything, so I'll give you the turn back, Rei."

Starting her turn, Rei breathes out before drawing her turn's card. She stares at the card before her lips curled into a smile.

"My turn! I first activate my face-down card! The spell, Pot of Avarice, allows me to shuffle 5 cards back to my graveyard and draw 2!"

With no response from Ai, Rei placed 5 cards from her graveyard into her deck and shuffled before she drew two. Processing her hand, she grins at the additional cards in her hand before continuing her play.

"This will work! Then, I play the field spell, Realm of Light! Each time a card or multiple are sent from the deck to the grave, I can add a counter on this card. Each counter increases my Lightsworn monsters that I control 100 ATK!"

Upon placing the card into the Field Spell slot, the surroundings shifted as they were now in the middle of a floating island decorated with buildings from Roman architecture.

"I'll now tribute summon! Using Wulf as material, I tribute summon Celestia, Lightsworn Angel (2300/200) in Attack Position!"

Wulf shatters into white particles before they shift in place to materialize an angel wearing armor and holding onto a staff, her wings extended outwards.

"When I tribute summoned Celestia using a Lightsworn monster, I can send the top 4 cards from my deck to the grave and then target up to 2 cards that you control and destroy them! I target your Scrap-Iron Scarecrow and Canon!"

Celestia raised her staff before swinging it horizontally, a beam of light firing from the staff and piercing both Canon and the face-down card, shattering them.

"No, Canon!"

"And because I sent a card from my deck to the grave, Realm of Light gains a counter, meaning she gets another 100 ATK!"

Five more cards remaining, Ken counted. What will you do now, Rei?

"I'll then use my second Charge of the Light Brigade! I send the top 3 cards from my deck to the grave and add a level 4 Lightsworn monster to my hand! I choose Jenis, Lightsworn Mender. Realm of Light adds another counter."

Taking a card from her hand, she looks at Ai before smirking.

"You lose, Ai! I use the spell card Monster Reborn! I resurrect the monster that had been in my grave since the first turn, Gragonith, Lightsworn Dragon (2000/1600)!"

A majestic roar sounded before a shadow covered the whole field. Looking up, Ken whistled impressed as the gigantic dragon crashed onto the ground.

"His effect activates; for every Lightsworn with a different name in my grave, it gets 300 ATK and DEF! I have 4 Lightsworn monsters in my grave with different names, meaning he gets an increase of 1200 ATK and DEF!"

Oof, yeah, the game's over.

"BATTLE! Realm of Light has 2 counters, meaning all my Lightsworn monsters gain 200 ATK! Celestia (2500/200) attacks Sonata (1200/1000), while Gragonith (3400/2800) attacks your life points directly!"

Firing a bolt of light energy from the angel towards the diva and killing it, Gragonith soars into the sky and starts diving towards Ai, blurring from sight due to the fast speed of the monster.

"SKYFALL BEAM!"

A burst of light blasted at Ai, disintegrating the very air itself, before Gragonith crashes into her with a huge explosion, sending tremors all around the island.
