It was close, but I managed to scrape off the green slime and step away from the destroyed tree, learning first-hand how the poison worked. A small man covered in pus-oozing lesions stepped forward from behind the destroyed tree.

The pus-covered man said that he was actually the avatar to the God of Pestilence, Corruption, and Disease. He said that he was being worshiped by a new cult of followers, and the blight was his gift to the world.
I knew that a God was impossible to kill, but it was entirely possible to dispel the God's avatar. The creature would be strong, but it could be killed, which would disperse the God's energies and hopefully stop the God from returning anytime soon.
The man fell to the ground as his body died, sending the avatar back to its own plane of existence.

The blight went away in a matter of days, and all of the vegetation became lush and green once more. The farmlands became bountiful, and the kingdom was very happy.
