It wasn't just the elf, dwarf, and orc nations that needed to be dealt with. There were also the barbarian clans to the north, the mariner nation to the east, and the desert empire of Jilal to the south. Formal treaties, better tariff laws, increased trade, and solid borders meant safety from foreign invasion as well as increased gold for the royal treasury.

It didn't take long to see that King Eric was going to have troubles as a ruler. It started off small at first, but I saw the signs. Small ticks, muttered conversations to himself, and strange looks. King Eric had the same madness that had torn apart his father and nearly destroyed the kingdom. I began to question my decision to put him on the throne.
More trouble arrived a few years into my time as the royal court wizard. The Elemental Plane of Fire seemed to declare war upon Daria, and suddenly every fire in the land became a portal into the fiery dimension, and elementals poured into the land. The fire creatures killed many citizens and burned down many houses; most of the kingdom thought that the Gods themselves were angry at our nation, but I knew that there had to be an arcane reason for the incursion.
