Chapter 489 - 16

Each spell I cast was instantly turned into a Summoning spell. I was careful to use only low-level magic since the Summoning was proportional to the magic used. Grom was kept busy dispatching each demon that was inadvertently summoned.

The spell took hold, warping upon itself. I followed the tendrils to a room in the Academy belonging to a Master. The demon that came forth was very strong, but we were able to dispatch it.

(Summoning +10)

I opened the door to the Master's room and saw the Golden Apple of Discord sitting on the bed. There was no question that it was this artifact that was causing all of our troubles.

Master Durgan didn't see me take it, and once I had it, I hid it even deeper within the Academy. I apologized to Master Durgan, saying that I didn't know what was going on either. The crisis went on for years, and the Academy was nearly abandoned before they found the apple and lifted the curse. Archmage Lacius was diagnosed as having been poisoned and made a full recovery.

(Mage Guild -30, Evil +10)

I remember when a finely dressed human came into the Full Cup Inn to hire us for a specific job.

"I am Thaddeus Burrmont," the dandy said. "I have spent a lot of money to purchase the location of a powerfully enchanted weapon. My offer is simple: I give you the location, you get me the weapon and keep all of the other treasure."

It was an excellent proposal, so I took the deal.

We had an enjoyable ride, Kholkogh enjoyed being outside and the horses of the other party members moved quickly.

(Geography +3)

We followed the road toward the destination marked on the map, a small cove in the far east along the shores of the Silver Sea. It was somewhere around the halfway mark that a very strange thing happened. We had a nice campsite alongside the road and it was my turn keeping watch. There was a soft, silvery glow on the edge of the campfire's light, when out stepped a miraculous creature straight from legend. At first, I thought it was a white horse, but the single horn on its forehead and fluffy white wings made me realize it was something special: a flying unicorn.
