You turn to Roe. "You told him to do this?"
"I told him my pack doesn't keep secrets like this," they say. "And if he wanted to remain a part of my pack, he should tell you the truth."
You don't know what to say to that.
You need some space. Or, at the very least, you need to be somewhere Jay isn't looking at you with those sickeningly familiar hazel eyes. You turn around and march back towards the den.
"Are you okay?" Addie asks as you pass.
"Yeah... Yeah..."
You feel rather than see the other wolves watching you.
Peace. Someone howls, breaking the radio silence.
The cry is quickly taken up by a dozen voices, then two dozen, then the whole pack.

It's comforting, like waves against a beach. Repetitive, simple, and loud enough to smother the whine of the moon for a few blissful seconds.
You close your eyes and breathe.
