We need to move," Roe says, not yelling but in a voice that carries. "Before someone starts filming."
You look up at the blocky apartment buildings rising around you. You don't fool yourself. Someone saw what happened. And, if they didn't, they sure as hell heard.
Fuck fuck fuck.
"Get back to Giligans," Roe says. "Don't be followed."
"Yes Alpha," their pack chants in unison and begins straddling their bikes. Engines roar back to life, helmets snap back into place.
You watch them roll out feeling sick, angry, and confused.
Roe gives you a long look before striding back to their own bike.
"Roe!"
Roe pauses for a moment. "Yes, Gideon Mercer?"
You don't say anything. You're not sure what you want to say. Roe speaks before you can figure it out.
"Forgive me. I thought... it doesn't matter. I'm sorry this happened to your pack. I'm sorry we didn't do more to stop it."
"Roe..."
They rev their bike. A second later they're gone, roaring away down the road after their pack. Their howls ring in your ears for a few seconds then begin to fade.
That's when Minjo looks around for the first time, really looks. "Where's Alek?"
The silence that settles on the pack is absolute and ice cold.
"Where is he?" Minjo asks again, turning on the spot, shaking, confused, and clutching her sons to her. "Where is the Alpha?"
Still no answer.
Her gaze settles on you and you see the desperation etched into every line of her features. "Gideon Mercer. Please. Where is my husband?"
