The sound of a lock sliding back.
You whirl around, teeth and claws sharp, only to stare through the glass door of the cafe at a woman in a bright green apron. She smiles at you as she flips the sign from 'closed' to 'open'.
What the actual fuck.
You've been at the door for hours. The cafe was empty. You were sure of it. Locked, dark, scentless. She must have come in a back door. But that didn't make sense either. None of the pack alerted you of anything crossing the perimeter they set up.
The woman is still smiling at you, waiting.
You push open the door and step inside.
Her smile stays locked in place. Her eyes are oddly blank, staring.
"Can I get you anything, sir?"
You open your mouth to answer and almost gag. The air is filled with the reek of dust, dirt, and death. Vampire. It's pouring from her skin like smoke from a volcano, thick and foul.
"I'm... here... to see Blackwell," you manage to choke out.
Her expression doesn't shift. Her smile is wide and toothy. Her eyes are blank. She gestures to the side.
You turn.
