He nods. "It does. It really does."
You just sigh.
Silence descends upon the two of you. After a few moments, he lets out a wistful sigh. "Fuck. You were a kid then, aye? I's still had some youth in me, too. Or, at least more than I do now."
"Strange how fast it goes by," you reply. "Unnerving."
Darin chuckles. "Yeah. And guess how it feels for me? You're still young, at least."
"For now."
"Don't take it for granted, Marshal," he says. And then he closes his eyes, sighing deeply. You glance over at him. He continues. "It's a damn shame you've had to spend your youth fighting for strangers."
