Chapter 4 - Chapter 4 Freedom

"So, what are you doing out in the middle of nowhere anyway?" Doggit ask. He watches as Benji thinks about his answer.

"I could ask you the same thing," Benji replies softly. He looks up at Doggit who is looking nervous over his shoulder. He takes a deep breath letting it out slowly with a sigh. "I don't know in all honesty. I just like to explore I guess." Benji shrugs as he answers.

Doggit just nods and goes back to walking quietly.

Benji hears something scurry across the ground and squeaks, grabbing onto the closest thing to him.

"You okay, Short Stack?" Doggit says looking down at the small male that has latched himself onto his arm.

"Umm, yeah!" Benji says as he realizes what or more accurately who he's holding onto. He quickly pulls away standing back up straight. "Sorry," he says shyly.

"It's okay, I don't mind. These tunnels can get a little spooky." Doggit replies with a smile. Benji gives a small nod and looks toward the ground.

They continue to walk together until there is a soft light that starts to flood the tunnel. Benji looks up and sees the opening to the tunnel knowing they've made it back outside. He takes off running toward the light and his freedom from this damp horrid tunnel.

"Orchid, be careful and wait for me," Doggit says as he runs after Benji hoping they don't hurt themself with how fast they're running out.

Slyonia follows close behind the vampire hoping staying close means they won't lose sight of her. This works until they make it back to the dark tunnel Slyonia had already been down earlier.

Slyonia hesitantly stepped into the tunnel with their head held high. They placed their hand on the wall listening to the quiet footsteps of the vampire in front of them.

Suddenly out of nowhere the footsteps are gone. Slyonia stops in place trying to look around but it's too dark to see anything.

They feel a wind hit the back of their neck and they quickly turn, swinging their fist at whatever has decided to enter their space. Someone grabs their arm pulling them forward.

"You know you could have just said you couldn't see." The vampire says to Slyonia. Slyonia swallows knowing they are in a very vulnerable position with this vampire right now.

They feel their arm getting lowered, but the vampire has not let go of their hand. Slyonia is suddenly being pulled into a direction they can only assume is the way out.

"You know if you try to kill me I won't go down without a fucking fight." Slyonia suddenly says as they continue being pulled behind the vampire blindly.

"I wouldn't expect anything less, besides I haven't tried to kill you yet have I?" The vampire replies emotionless. Slyonia didn't reply, deciding that nothing more needed to be said.

They both walked in silence to the exit. The vampire slowly approached the exit cautiously, and Slyonia walked out with their head held high like they weren't just being scared shitless by a vampire.

Benji falls back into the grass basking in the sun.

"I've never been so happy to see the sun before." He says to no one in particular. Doggit emerges from the tunnel about a minute after Benji did. He gives a small smile looking at the short human who is basically rolling in the grass right outside the tunnel entrance.

"Slyonia!" Benji suddenly sits up straight shouting.

"Huh?" Doggit replies looking confused at the man who was just content in the grass.

"My friend! They're still in there." Benji replies quickly, pushing up to his feet. "I have to go find them." He continues starting to walk back towards the tunnel. Doggit places his arm out stopping Benji from going back into the dark tunnels. "Let me go!" He yells thrashing around trying to break free from his hold.

"You are not going back in there." Doggit suddenly says sternly.

"I have to-" Benji begins to protest before the other male cuts him off.

"No, you don't. If they don't find their way out soon, I'll go back in after them. I know the tunnels better than you anyway." Benji relaxes and thinks for a moment. He takes a step back looking at the taller male. He releases an exhausted sigh before plopping back down into the grass. Doggit walks over to Benji and slowly sits beside him.

"I'm sure they're fine," Doggit says reassuringly. Benji only gives a nod in reply, not breaking eye contact with the tree branches above.

Slyonia walks out waiting on their eyes to adjust to the new lighting. They notice a small figure jumping up from the ground and approaching them quickly.

"Slyonia!" Benji shouts excitedly as he runs up to them.

"Depuk, you made it out." They reply with the most uncaring voice they can muster.

"Yeah, although, I did have a little help from- '' Benji stops talking and looks around the field to find Doggit. His eyes scan the field over and over, and he stands there in front of Slyonia dumbfounded.

"From..?" Slyonia questions when Benji doesn't finish his sentence.

"He was just- Where did-" Benji starts but fails to complete either sentence.

Slyonia turns to look for the female vampire, but she has disappeared. They aren't surprised though, it's not like a vampire to hang around.

Slyonia turns back to Benji who is still staring in shock at where Doggit should be. They grab his arm pulling him off into the direction they believe should be the car. Benji just allows himself to be pulled along still trying to figure out where the man who saved him vanished.
