Chapter 2 - A Brand New Friendship

"What about myself? I also need food. I've got to go there, even if it disturbs him," And thinking this, he decided to move towards the bin.

"Who are you, friend dog?" The crow cawed.

"I'm Br-Bruno."

"I'm Clew. Do you want food? There's plenty of food here."

"But this is a garbage pit," Bruno said.

"So what?"

"Do you eat at bins everyday?" Bruno asked Clew.

"Yes. Every crow does. What's in that? You can have some as well."

Bruno sniffed the food — it was completely different from the luxurious food he used to have everyday. "I'll have to eat if I have to survive," and thinking, Bruno ate some rice which lay on the road.

"How is it? Tasty right?" Clew asked, who looked completely satisfied with the food.

"Not so bad. But not good."

"You'll get used to it," Clew said, "You don't seem to be any stray dog. Are you a pet? What are you doing in the streets alone then?"

"I was a pet," Bruno said, "but my owner told me to leave his home. Do you live in this city?"

"Oh, no. I leave a little far. The Jungle of Aclon. I've got many friends there."

"Oh. Can I go there with you?"

"Sure. But the forest animals won't take you in there that easily. They'll question you a lot and can even ask you to do something."

"I'll be able to."

"Very well then."

Being so involved in their conversation, they did not notice that it was already dark.

"Where are you going to stay tonight?" Bruno asked.

"Probably on a tree. But what about you?"

"I know a place. Outside a shop where there is always a roof over my head."

"Well then," Clew said, "Good night," and he flew up on a tree.

Bruno made himself comfortable a slept. He was excited to go to Aclon Woods the next day with Clew. Thinking about these happy thoughts, he fell asleep.

Dawn met the night face-to-face and soon it was morning.

"Caw! Caw! Caw!"

Bruno opened his eyes to find Clew pecking at him to wake up.

"You wake up so late," Clew said.

"Late? But it's barely morning."

"I wake up before morning. You try to do that as well."

"He speaks too much," thought Bruno.

Bruno said,"What about food? Do we again have to eat that food?"

"Of course. What other option do you see?"

Bruno and Clew went to the same garbage pit and started to eat. The food wasn't good, but as Clew said — There wasn't any other option.

"When are we going to the Forest?" Bruno asked eagerly.

"Oh, not today. I did not come into this city just because I wanted to. I have been given a task.

"What task?"

"I've got to give three stray cats berries to eat. After all, all of us should equally have the beautiful gifts of Mother Nature."

"Berries? Why don't you give me one?"

"I didn't want to waste berries — since I was told to distribute it only to cats, and not dogs."

"Ok fine." Bruno said looking upset.

"But since," Clew continued, "we are friends now, I'll give you one," and he gave Bruno a pink colored berry.

Bruno hastily ate it ; a burst of sweetness immediately filled his mouth. It was too sweet.

"Thankyou!" Bruno said to Clew, "I'll come with you while you distribute the berries."

"Sure."

So they set off looking for stray cats.

"Oh, I know a place!" Bruno informed, "The narrow street opposite to which I used to live, I always saw two cats there. Let's visit that place."

"Great."

The place wasn't that near. They had to walk for a long time. Then, Bruno finally recognised the place.

"It's here-" and while saying, the two immediately spotted two cats — a brown and a white.

Bruno and Clew approached them.

"Ahem... Hello. I want to distribute free berries. I would be glad if you take one each."

The brown cat whispered something into the white cat's ear.

"What if the berry contains poison? You want to kill us?" The brown cat said.

"Not at all!" Bruno said. " I just ate a berry a few moments ago. They're delicious!"

The cats finally managed to believe. They took one each, and immediately smiled for the extreme sweetness.

"Th-thankyou!" They both said.

"You're welcome," and saying, Bruno and Clew left to find another cat. It was already evening.

"Let's visit the market. There are sure cats roaming there," Clew said.

They advanced towards the City market. On reaching, the found the place fully crowded with people. It was almost impossible to spot a cat in that crowd.

"Should we split up?" Bruno suggested.

"Good idea. We'll be meeting at the entrance of the Market."

Bruno found a narrow passage. He checked there – but there wasn't anything except a pair of dustbins and some eaten apples.

He continued walking. It was difficult to see in that suffocating crowd. But, luckily, he heard Crew cawing and hurried to the market entrance.

"Did you give the berry to a cat?" Bruno asked, exhausted due to running.

"Yes. The task is over. We can head out for Aclon Jungle tomorrow — since it's already late.

"Great! Good night!" Bruno said.

"Good night," and they both went to sleep.

It was a very exciting night for Bruno — he would be going to the forest the next day and meet new animals!
