Chapter 10 - 10. I want to help; I can help

Lixin stood dumbfounded by what she had just said. His jaws dropped in surprise, but he kept himself from showing such reactions to her. He was meant to be merciless in front of her, yet it was never what he assumed it would be when next to her.

Somehow, Lixin found himself easily softening around her. He blinked and frowned instantly. His brows creased, and his thin lips curled downward. He was dissatisfied with how she easily saw through him. No one over the years had been able to guess what was going on in his messy mind up until now; she had said it so openly as if she knew it.

"Do you trust her? A person you only knew for less than a week? You are seriously so gullible and quick to deceive. The world is full of unknown evils. What if Suyin was guilty? What will you do?"

Nothing, because she can never be guilty of a crime that she did not commit; the law works that way. I might not know her that well, but she is not the kind of person who would do such a thing. In the beginning, didn't I ask you what danger she was in? I am serious this time around." She gripped his arms tightly, refusing to let go no matter how weak a struggle he put on. "I can help; at least let me help."

Mingxia commented with a serious tone. If it involved Suyin, she was willing to take a dangerous route for her. Suyin was kind despite not knowing who she was. She welcomed her openly and, from then on, treated her as her daughter. something others failed to do, including her damn father. Mingxia's mind drifted to the poster of a model bearing the same surname as hers, and she balled her fist. Her father never cared about her in the first place; why should she care about matters that don't concern her? She mumbled internally.

"It is too dangerous! You are not fit for that."

"I knew it!" Mingxia blurted out happily, and instantly her mood soured. She understood why he drove her away. If her guess was right, they were after him and not Suyin. "So she is in danger? What kind of danger is she in? Does she know about it?"

Nothing at all was heard from Lixin as he stared into an unending dream. His body stiffened up when he saw Mingxia's hands move up his arms. He retracted his arm and looked away.

"Mind your business," He shot back at her, suddenly reaching out for the ointment box and placing it right in front of her. "I have work to do. Bai Yuming would take over from where I stopped. Eat your food and take your medicine when due," He said coldly as he took his steps forward, leaving a huge gap between Mingxia and himself. He strode further from her and towards the second door of his room. "Be good, and whatever you do, do not step out of the house."

And just like that, Lixin was gone. Mingxia groaned as she kicked her arms in the air. Her whole body felt something new—an extraordinary feeling she never had when she was dating Luo Yuxuan. That reminds her... Luo Yuxuan—did he probably move on?

Her heart tightened painfully at the thought of Luo Yuxuan being with Xu Mengyao. She could remember it like it was yesterday, while it happened four fucking years ago. Xu Mengyao had recently applied as an intern at their law firm. She was vibrant, vivacious, and hardworking. A very good description of a woman with beauty, pride, and curves Her body was loaded with every man's dream—a figure-eight curve and a big ass.

Xu Mengyao was far better when compared to Mingxia in body shape, but when it came to the brain, she was less than her. Mingxia was slender and beautiful, but she had an arrogant attitude. The knock and opening of the door distracted Mingxia from her thoughts. Bai Yuming came in with her wheelchair and a white sachet with colorful drugs in it. She had a slight look of worry on her face as she popped open the drug packet.

"The master said you should have this, and later on, we can take an upturn to the hospital for a quick scan." Bai Yuming held her up, led her into the wheelchair, and handed her a glass of water. She examined her as she gulped the drug and then the water down her throat. "Your body is getting better every second!" She exclaimed, wearing off the anxious look on her face, and smiled.

"Bai Yuming, does this house have a CCTV camera?"

"Yes, I guess. The master keeps it hidden. It is not easily seen." Bai Yuming nodded her head in agreement, wheeling her out of Lixin's room onto the passage and then down the hallway. "Why do you ask?"

"I believe Suyin is innocent, but Lixin won't admit it. I need some footage to prove it." She lied while hiding her true intention. When Suyin took her out to investigate her mother's death, she was handed a flash drive that contained some important files. "Can you let me into the room just this once? I promise it is urgent."

Sorry, Madam, I meant Mingxia. I cannot do that; it is against my code of conduct. If he finds out that I let you in, I might die in his dungeon." A surge of fear filled Bai Yuming's heart, and goosebumps appeared all over her body. How could she forget the horrific dungeon the last snitch died in? A trauma she could never forget! "I trust Madam Suyin, but this... I cannot risk my life. Master is skeptical about people invading his private life."

"Oh!" Her lips widened, and she kept them shut afterward, allowing herself to be put to sleep. It was still morning, yet her head felt dizzy—presumably the effect of the new drug. She pretended to be asleep and requested to be put in her room. When Bai Yuming was not looking, Mingxia snatched some key cards from her pocket and played off her sleeping act. At last, Bai Yuming was gone from the room, and Mingxia was properly tucked into bed. She sighed when she was able to thoroughly pull off the act and slipped quietly out of bed. She sorted the stolen keycards and found the one that matched the door scanner. Mingxia kicked herself out of bed with the aid of her waking stick and sat on the wheelchair, taking the other door in the southeast corner out of the room.

She took a downturn to the right and found the door. It was boldly written out of bounds, yet she did not care. Mingxia plugged in the card, and surprisingly, the door automatically rolled open for her. She pushed herself inside, and the door closed.

"Time to see what you are hiding," Mingxia mumbled, holding herself up from the wheelchair and then sitting back on a black chair near the monitor. She typed in the numbers on their flash drive, and luckily, the files on the computer opened up. Mingxia scrolled swiftly down to the files, copied them to the flash drive, and exited the computer, putting it to sleep. As she was about to leave, her eyes spotted a brown envelope on the black desk next to where she was seated.

She stretched and got the files, skillfully tore off the seal, and read through the files. It was a sue document! And on that same file, she shuddered icily, noting her father's lawyer stamp on it.

"Ling Haoyu?" She mentioned his name slowly, trying her best to recall where she had heard it before. Mingxia was very void of her father's involvement in the law firm, but this name was very familiar to her. Was it truly his father?

The person who abandoned Lixin as he said?

"What connection do you have with my dad now?" Mingxia quickly took pictures of the contract, both the front and back, and then the middle pages. She sneered while reading it. "Asshole fathers are now the trending topic." She referred to Haoyu as that after digesting everything that had been read. "So this is why he chased Suyin away?"

...…..

In Mu's Corps.

"Boss, your appearance today is moody! The brewed coffee has gotten cold and is still untouched." Skyler's secretary asked politely, attempting not to further worsen his mood. Mu Lixin was known for his short temper when associating with people, and Skyler made sure never to cross paths with his boss's other side. "I will get more sugar for you if that is the case."

"Do not bother; I have no appetite," Lixin responded oddly. "We still have no lawyer to defend the case."

"I have tried, Boss! They keep saying the case is futile on your side. We might have to give up."

"And let that idiotic man squander my wealth and inheritance on women and gambling; Never!" He growled back at him. This was the tenth time Skyler demanded the case to be dropped; in fact, almost all the lawyers he had spoken with previously said the same thing! "Skyler, I am not in the mood at all. I have lots of things on my mind that need to be figured out. Quitting is the least of my worries. Continue contacting more lawyers; they can't chicken out like that!"

"Sure Boss!" He enthusiastically clapped for his boss and left the office to keep on trying. Lixin was right, Skyler reckoned; they could not just give up, especially when the Mu's corps reputation was at stake and, more so, Lixin's own. It would be embarrassing to find out that the business lord quit because of his inability to settle a trivial issue that would certainly be the talk of the town for years to come. Lixin crossed his legs and fell into deep thought. If his suspicion was right, his father, Haoyu, had this properly constructed. He threw so much blame on a dead woman, and knowing he would not be able to defend her, he sued him!

"Sneaky and crafty as always!"
