"Tell me Ghoul Hunter, do you honestly believe putting us all in that place will change our nature? Are you even aware of what happens to us once we're on the inside?" he asked.
"You knew the rules Victor, you chose to break them," Bartholomew replied.
"You didn't answer my question," he said.
"Am I not evidence enough that it can be done?" Bartholomew asked.
"No. I'm not convinced. You and your people still feed like the rest of us, you're just less honest about it," he said.
"What exactly do you mean by that Victor?" he asked.
"I never became a Ghoul Hunter but I was once like you. Full of hope. Deluded by the belief that if I just killed the right people I wouldn't be scared of my own reflection. That guilt followed me around for years until one night I learned the truth," he said.
"What happened on that night Victor?" he asked.
"I allowed myself to become what I already was and it was the greatest feeling in the world. I now know what I am and unlike you, I'm not ashamed of it," he said.
"It doesn't have to be that way Victor, you can always choose to be better," he said.
"Be like you, you mean?" he asked.
"I'm not asking you to hunt your people. I'm saying you should fight for peace," he said.
"Civility you mean? That is the glaring flaw in your logic. We were never a civilized people not even by our own standards. Tell me Ghoul Hunter, how does it feel to walk among them and smell their scent? Does it make your mouth water?" he asked.
"No, it doesn't, because I am the one in control Victor," he said.
"So you say Ghoul Hunter, but I am no fool. I no longer carry the burdens of your delusions. You thirst like the rest of us and yet you choose to label who is most deserving of your wrath. I wonder, from one predator to the next, how do you choose your kill? And how long do you think you'll be able to keep up the act before you hurt someone who really matters?" he asked.
"Be quiet Victor," he said.
"You insubordinate fool. I'm trying to help you. When I was like you there was no Midnight Society to prolong my insanity. I came to enlightenment same as the others who came before me. If you listen to me, you will gain your freedom," he said.
"Why don't you tell me something Victor? How did it feel when you destroyed the lives of the three people who lived in that apartment? Did it bring you peace? Were you relieved?" he asked.
"There can be no peace for monsters like us but it made me very happy. Knowing I was merely performing an act of nature, I knew all eight corners of the world were in alignment, because when I take a life, innocent or not, I know I am doing what I was created for, Ghoul Hunter," he said.
