We spent the rest of the week feeling uncertain. Sol and I didn't talk to each other. Sol was getting closer to Gwen and making the living barbie grow a big head. And my fan population among the boys at school also grew after I became colder and nastier to them.
Dad agreed not to move out of Malibu in a hurry. Since Alabama and Los Angeles were quite far away, he thought it was still safe for us to stay here.
However, the feeling of dread didn't go away. Moreover, the elders in the clan had contacted my parents and asked them to look after me.
Sergey was still missing. Our werewolf radar couldn't find him anywhere. Foolishly, there was a rumor circulating among the Moon Clan that I had received an inheritance from Sergey in the form of a potential offspring.
"Asshole." I cursed softly at the memory of that cheap rumor.
"How could they think I was carrying Sergey's child. Oh, my God. Not in the human world, not in the wolf world, those sly gossipers still exist."
I exhaled loudly. Next to me sat two unpopular geeky girls. They glanced at me secretly, but I ignored them.
My body was very uncomfortable. The signs of turning into a wolf were already starting to appear. I'd better get home as soon as possible and skip the last lesson.
Then there was Sol standing.
The guy whose good looks had increased by twenty percent today was waiting for me at the doorway of the library. Yes, he was waiting for me because he immediately greeted my presence with a big smile.
"Lei, don't forget to study at my place tonight."
"Sorry, Sol. I can't." I replied without turning to her.
My steps went straight past Sol. My gaze was glued to the front, refusing to look at a guy in a black t-shirt with loose pants. His black hair, which was getting longer, added to his sexy look as it was choppy and messy.
"Why?"
Sol followed me. I felt annoyed and happy at the same time. Two strange emotions that made me stare at myself.
"There's some family business."
"We can do the assignment after that."
"Sol." I stopped walking. My body was already getting hot. Strange. Strange. It was supposed to be later in the evening that my change happened. But why is the discomfort getting stronger in the daytime like this?
"I really can't. Just send me the part I need to do. I'll email the results back to you."
Just like that, and I immediately left Sol's presence. My plan to skip class at the end of the lesson had failed.
Because I had already skipped class in the middle of the day.
I sent a message to Mom, telling her that I was going to the beach. It was a sign that I didn't want to be stuck at home in wolf form. I put my bag in my locker and hurried to Leo Carillo.
This is my favorite beach. It's not as crowded as the other beaches in Malibu. And more importantly, there are a few caves I can hide in when I'm in wolf form.
Then the changes started to happen.
It started with my body getting bigger. Followed by reddish-brown fur that filled every inch of my body. My fangs grew longer and my fingernails began to turn into sharp claws.
I tried desperately not to howl. This was difficult because my human consciousness was fading while I was in wolf form. I quickly entered one of the caves and hid as deep as I could.
It would be a pleasant night. Just like the month before, when I was free to splash and jump on the beach. There were no people after eight in the evening because of the high tide warning.
But this night was different. I was scouring the sand for shells when my ears perked up and my nose caught a strong human scent.
This was no ordinary human.
I walked casually to one of the large rocks on the beach. My bright eyes quickly scanned the area. My grin widened as I caught a glimpse that was far from what I had imagined.
Sol and Gwen.
What a stroke of luck. My claws appeared to paw at the hard rocks. My soul as human Lei was left behind.
I was now Lei Moon of the Moon Clan.
I slipped out of the shadow of the rocks. The moonlight washed over the part of the beach not covered by the barrier.
For my people, moonlight is the time when our strength is at its peak. It was bad luck for Gwen and Sol to meet me at such a time. The distance between me and these two people was only twenty meters.
The wind that blew toward me carried the scent of the two of them. It's disgusting. I felt like throwing up when I smelled Gwen's foul scent. A full bottle of perfume splashed all over her body wouldn't be able to hide the bad smell coming from Barbie's body.
Of course, it was sarcasm. But Gwen's ignorance really made me sick. If this wasn't Malibu, I would have torn her perfect body to shreds.
Would her fans still adore her if they saw so many scars on her beautiful face? Or would they still adore her if one of her hands was missing? Oh, what makes me even happier is the thought of her being kicked off the cheerleading team for losing a leg because of me.
Damn it. It's just an image, but it's too enchanting and tempting to ignore. My animal lust surfaced. I paused for a moment, silencing all distractions so as not to go too far.
I was born half werewolf. I can control my strength. I can control my ferocity. I can ....
Unfortunately, the same did not seem to be true for the two humans. Gwen suddenly turned her head and noticed my presence. Her scream was loud and piercing in the middle of the deserted beach.
Sol also turned his head. What annoyed me was when he quickly pulled Gwen behind him and used him as a shield.
Stupid. I sneered to myself.
Both of you are only human. No matter how strong Sol is, you can't beat me.
I moved closer. My growl was deep. I don't intend to hurt them. I just wanted to scare them and get them out of here if necessary.
But Gwen's loud screech suddenly inflamed me. Her index finger was pointed directly at me and Gwen's disgusting voice sounded like a broken record.
"She's a mad dog, Sol! Kill her! Kill her!"
