I sighed as I ran off. It was hard not to worry about my sister. After Mom died, Rose was basically the only family I had. Dad was always busy and had grown colder toward Rose and me.
Rose herself only had me to depend on.

[Twelve years ago]
I shuffled down the grand, echoing hallway of the castle, my footsteps muffled by the ornate carpet that stretched across the stone floor. The castle felt too big, too empty, especially now that Mom was gone. Dad was always busy with his duties as king, and when he was home, he was distant, almost... cold. It was like he didn't know how to be around us anymore.
I stopped outside Rose's room, my hand hovering over the gilded doorknob. I could hear her coughing from inside, a harsh, rattling sound that made my chest tighten. She'd been sick for days, but Dad hadn't even noticed. He hadn't even checked on her.
Taking a deep breath, I pushed the door open and stepped inside.
