We continued to fly in the sky, the wind rushing past us. Rose had gone silent after I mentioned what I would do under the worst-case scenario.
I sighed, feeling a heaviness settle in my chest. It was dumb of me to even consider it. The thought of resorting to something as drastic as the abyssal darkness weighed heavily on my mind. I glanced over at Rose, her profile illuminated by the dimming light of the sunset. She seemed lost in thought, her expression a mix of worry and contemplation.
"Rose," I said gently, breaking the silence. "I didn't mean to upset you. I just—"
"I know you're trying to protect us," she interrupted softly, her voice barely above a whisper. But I have my doubts the darkness would be of any help." Her lower lip quivered. "If anything, it might do us more harm than good."
I sighed. That's why I left it as a last resort.
