I hummed as I helped Mom make cookies, the sweet scent of chocolate chip dough filling the warm kitchen. We were going to bring some to my big bro and Rose, and I was excited to see them.
Sil was in the living room, playing with a tiny toy car we had gotten him for his birthday. The kid was having a blast, moving it around the table and floor, making his typical vrooming sounds. His wavy black hair bounced with each movement, and his concentration was evident as he zoomed the car around, completely immersed in his own little world.
"Sil, are you 'racing' that car?" I called out, unable to suppress a giggle.
"Yeah! Vroom, vroom!" he shouted back, pushing the car faster across the hardwood floor.
Ma laughed, glancin' over her shoulder. "He's determined to win the race, that's for sure."
I nodded, grinning at Sil's enthusiasm. "Maybe we should have a family race later. I'll make sure to bring some cookies to fuel the competition!"
